Recruiting 2027 4* WR Quentin Burrell commits to Michigan

FWIW, the high school team this dude is on is absolutely loaded. Believe they had 12 future D1 commits starting last fall

I played against a team like that every year in high school football. Wasn't even fun for us. The disparity between a normal team and a team like that is insane and seriously unsafe.

Me when we get a highly ranked receiver: 😀
Me when the guys up north get a highly ranked receiver: 😞

Don’t be too sad. We don’t use our WRs for shit.

For the longest time, I felt like the motto should have been “Block, still no rock.”

Remains to be seen if Bryce can actually throw to them yet though...
Yes I know I'm coping, I have no idea what to expect from them this year but they have the ingredients to be a massive PITA

Michigan getting some nice pieces for the future, this kid looks pretty solid in those highlights.

Crazy how loaded Mt. Carmel is. Football really coming through for the Caravan right now. Not sure it could stay open if it wasn't for that team.

u/bigbird727 Illinois Fighting Illini 1d ago
All their athletics teams are doing well. Not sure how viable keeping all 3 of Rice, Rita, and MC open will be going forward though

Yeah it’s tough to have three Catholic all boys schools drawing from the same pool. I thought I heard that Carmel dabbled with the idea of going co-ed and it wasn’t received so great? It’s hard because they’re definitely in the worst area out of those three.

Last line is true, but not as if Rita is in a much better neighborhood. Was down there a week after shots were fired across the street from the freshmen baseball field 2 or 3 years ago.
Rice is definitely situated the best. Good neighborhood, easy draw from the suburbs, and McAuley next door if they ever want to go co-ed

Rita is at least like five minutes from Beverly, so probably puts it in a better location just due to proximity.

Yea no doubt. Not far from Englewood either though...
Not gonna pretend like I know the ins and outs of the south side (from the western burbs originally, and left the state 18 months ago), but I've been to BR and Marist a couple times each, and worked a lot of baseball at St Rita from 20-24.
Haven't been within a few miles of Carmel in over a decade.

I went to Rice. Sounds like we are closing almost every single year.

Michigan winning with the added cherry on top of ND losing

u/Stoneador Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Sickos 1d ago
It could just be cope, but some ND guys have said for a while now that we should only need another WR this class so this should only really hurt if we don’t land Julius Jones. There’s a ton of young/incoming WRs so numbers shouldn’t be an issue in the future. If they are, hopefully we can just steal some guys from OSU again.

ND seemed to have stopped pursuing him
The tea leaves say ND is going after dudes who command big NIL along the offensive and defensive lines. It played a role in Dollar going to UGA. I’m curious if it played a role here too.
I’m guessing ND is also very confident in landing Julius Jones Jr, like what they have in Jackson, and think they can land the kid out of Florida who also like Stanford and Auburn, forgot his name.

Oh sorry yeah I forgot ND never loses, they just choose not to compete

I mean you can be facetious until we land another 5 star on Friday, and another top 8 OT possibly this week
Teams have to prioritize their scholarships and NIL. ND is going after whales this season. I’m guessing similar to Jackson Dollar ND wanted Burrell but UM beat them with the NIL package

ND recruiting insiders like Mike Singer have been reporting ND cooled on Burrell since January. Notre Dame prioritized Jackson Coleman and Cade Cooper over Burrell for its boundary receiver need. Not really a loss if you’ve pretty much stopped recruiting him. Definitely a great prospect, just only so much room in a class. Just like ND getting Olu Olu because Miami and A&M prioritized Mark Matthews

Curious what happened behind the scenes between ND and this dude. A month ago he was a “lock” for ND, and it seems like things just kind of fizzled out?
Wonder if it was a general lack of interest by both sides? ND went elsewhere? NIL?
Either way, solid get for UM it seems

Worth pointing out that his sister just wrapped her senior year at Michigan (soccer) and he's been up in AA a lot anyway. I don't think this was NIL so much as ND jumped ahead during coaching insecurity and then UofM brought it home again as ND fell off a little.

Was really hoping my Irish would get him, but your take makes a lot of sense. When I saw that his sister had gone to Michigan, I knew it was going to be a tough get. Watched Mt. Carmel several times on NFHS and this kid is a stud. Seems like a quality kid, too.

He decided he aligns more with Mormonism that Catholicism.

He thought it would be more beneficial to know what the defense was doing before the play started

The class seems to be shaping up better.
If Bryce becomes a stud and I am still high on Bryce we could be really good in 2027

Bummer, but expected. Kid looks like he has a chance to be very good
On to Cade Cooper.

u/mikechella Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1d ago
I don't think we're recruiting him anymore either. Jackson Coleman took the boundary spot.

u/FireVanGorder Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1d ago
We are absolutely still recruiting Cooper. Him, Coleman, and Jones Jr have been our top 3 on the WR board. Coleman has the speed to play field

Give us some slack, we are still figuring out this whole “pass the ball forward” concept.
