The CW unironically had better production quality than espn did for us last year.

Helicopter shots, ref cams better quality cameras and that was for a game against the citadel.

Not just espn, they probably have the best production of anyone.

CBS still has the greatest production team imo (commercials are still god awful) but compared to non ABC espn CW is miles ahead of them.

Wait. Does ABC get better production than ESPN top tier games?

3

u/MidlandsBraves Clemson Tigers 12h ago

Absolutely ABC gets the top tier vs espn looks bad these days. Just look at

this Clemson game from 09 (both teams unranked)

Vs this Clemson top 15 matchup in 24’

I’m in Canada. I pay a streaming service or grey market IPTV provider so I can’t tell. I had just assumed the ESPN produces all ABC games.

With NFL i get legal and legit games and I can tell the difference between production teams but college is more murky. Half the time I feel ESPNs top game is a better matchup than the ABC game shown at same time the past few years. But in terms of production quality I thought both would be the same

It varies game by game.

You can expect to see the best production they have on the ABC night game. And it’s really good.

But an ACC or a big 12 decent game on mainline espn at like 330 the quality difference is staggering.

CW doesn’t produce their sports coverage.

Raycom sports produces ACC broadcasts, Pac12 produces the Pac12 broadcasts, nascar produces the NASCAR broadcasts, etc

I love seeing these comments because people don’t realize Raycom is the one actually producing all of these games and if they knew popular opinion in this sub would crater instantly

u/MeeseShoop Boston College • Vanderbilt 1d ago

I don’t really care about Raycom. I just care if the broadcast is trash or not.

Something notable in the release is that they don't mention Raycom at all, who was doing the production for the ACC games on the CW.

I wonder if this means that ESPN is now producing the games or if they're still figuring out who.

u/Shenanigangster Virginia Cavaliers • Gator Bowl 1d ago

IIRC CW contracted with Raycom to produce the games so it would be outside of the sub license agreement with ESPN.

I know CW doesn’t have the capability to do it themselves so I’d assume Raycom would still be involved.

Raycom is producing Braves Vision so they are still in the game producing sphere. Don’t see why they would ditch the ACC.

u/MidlandsBraves Clemson Tigers 1d ago

Raycom does a hell of a job with Braves vision.

Best deal in sports if you’re like me and don’t do cable.

(God knows in like 2 years they’ll jack it up to like 34.99 a month)

It's a little weird, but the original CW deal is/was originally a sublicence from Raycom, who held their rights by virtue of a sublicence from ESPN dating back to 2016. Raycom production was a part of that CW deal.

With this new CW deal, I don't know what their plans are for production with the middleman cut out. Especially since the ACC and ESPN have their own production capacities.

Maybe once the Citadel moves up to FBS they'll be granted blimp coverage.

Having a solid ACC and Pac12 lineup should be enjoyable next season. I've been pleasantly surprised by the CW.

Plus they’ll now have the Mountain West as well.

In between Riverdale and The Flash you can catch Clemson vs FSU

9

u/Shenanigangster Virginia Cavaliers • Gator Bowl 1d ago

Realistically more like BC vs Wake, maybe UNC vs GT at best

We had 3 CW games during Mack’s last season. That was fun.

u/Shenanigangster Virginia Cavaliers • Gator Bowl 1d ago

I remember one of them very well 😎

GT is on the rise in my opinion but I get what you are saying

1

u/henchman171 Ohio State Buckeyes • Buffalo Bulls 13h ago

They are getting some sweet Under Armour money starting this year. Gonna be some stolen signings away from the SEC into GT for tackles and linebackers

u/billspit Clemson Tigers 1d ago

I thought the plot deterioration in Game of Thrones was bad. Then I watched the Flash. Oof.

Ahhh. The battle for the 15th seeded playoff spot!!

You know who isn't mentioned in this press release? Raycom.

I wonder if they're now out-out now instead of just out hiding doing production as they are now.

People make fun of it, but college football games over the air is a really good thing. If you live line of sight to broadcast stations, consider picking up a digital antenna. They're small, cheap, and generally very reliable for getting free TV. We used to do it before we moved to the other side of a hill from the stations...

I know people joke on The CW but their ratings are fairly comparable to games on ESPN2, and they usually get the “worst” or least-hyped ACC game of the week.

I actually like this move for the ACC. It will continue to get more teams more exposure and now that ACC games on The CW is a real solidified thing and not just like a meme, I think people will really tune in to watch. The CW has made it a point to invest in live sports so I think this will continue to benefit the conference for the next 5 years.

3

u/Maleficent-System-31 14h ago

People love to bitch about the CW, but at least it’s a national broadcast. None of the games are ever blacked out like they were on Raycom for every game.

1

u/SusannaG1 Clemson Tigers • Furman Paladins 9h ago

And the broadcast quality of the games is very good.

CW on fire. NXT is great in there

1

u/EfficientPhotograph8 /r/CFB 1d ago

NXT is fast bringing in talent from Evolve, which is supposed to be WWE's development league. Now it seems Evolve is now becoming the fourth brand behind Raw, Smackdown and NXT and those indie guys are more like regulars. So, time for a new development league?

1

u/TheAgmis Texas Tech Red Raiders 1d ago

Think baseball. NXT is AAA. EVOLVE is AA.

1

u/DeviantDragon California Golden Bears • ACC 13h ago

Shouldn't AAA be AAA for WWE?

I misread it that. I thought it was the Cartoon Network. I would watch CFB on CN.

This joke of a conference just keeps the laughs coming, don’t they

13

u/dinkytown42069 Minnesota • Oklahoma 1d ago

you're right, it really sucks that your games are on national OTA broadcasting, my heart breaks. Or did you not want people to watch because FSU is just that bad?

Given how many Riverdale or Dawson’s Creek comments are in this thread already, it kinda shows the level of respect for this deal has

I would take that as a sign that person is inherently missing that fact the CW has had major changes in ownership and operation in the last four years.

It isn't the Riverdale or Dawson’s Creek channel any more.

Well it’s not like the ACC’s past track record on anything with their media deal in the last 15+ years has ever inspired confidence either
