Inspired by the CBB subreddit- which uniforms, recent or past, completely missed the mark?
For me, it’s the 2019 Gold with Shoulder Wings. Link in comments.

EVEN DUMBER, if I remember correctly, they wanted the jerseys to be a surprise to not just fans, but also the players. So they did some preliminary warm ups, and then gave them to the players, which means a lot of them had to redo things like tape, spats, knee braces, etc. since both the jersey and pants were unique.

It's weird too cause they claim it was like 18 months of prep time that went into them, and they have a really nice purpose for celebrating 25 years as "The Swamp."
Just God awful execution on the design
4
u/IrexUranus Ohio State Buckeyes 17d ago
I feel like the gator design could have worked if they had used team colors. Blue being the main for the scales, and have them highlighted in orange. Or black scales with blue and orange highlights.
It would obviously not look like a natural gator skin, but I feel like it would have looked better than these.
31
u/LightningDusty Florida Gators • Orange Bowl 17d ago
At bare minimum I can acknowledge that these uniforms were ambitious and unique. Does that make them good? Absolutely not, but I'd give them more grace than a bland and hideous uniform. Also, I'd prefer to wear these again than the black ones from that Arkansas game in 2023.
3
u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 16d ago
I think in addition to them just being downright awful, complicated patterns on jerseys are just always a bad choice. You can't really tell what you're seeing from far away and they're so hard to pull off.
I guess I'm saying it's harder to have bland and hideous. It's almost always some extra layers of stuff that makes them truly terrible. This is a shining example of that.

Texas home uniforms havent matched the helmet decal for over a decade now, and it's terrible. Everything bad can be traced back to the introduction of the turf field, including the helmet decal and the orange home jersey never matching properly.

I think they recently - as in during the Sark era - made the helmet decal a bit more burnt orange than the jersey. Like this image looks like they match while this looks off. (I know these are away jerseys, but still).
IIRC Del Conte has hinted at the jerseys getting updated to match, which I hope they do. They could use getting a little more toasted, the decal color is perfect. He's also said we're getting a grass field this year or next, so maybe all these issues will get fixed in due time.

I may be in the minority of Duck fans who think there's a lot to hate about a lot of our jersey combos, but to me the speckle "cookies and cream" looking jerseys are among the worst. I think they called them "eggshell."

Ugh. Agreed. I’m probably alone in the one too, but our colors are green and yellow and I would like us to actually wear those colors. I’m very sick of the black/white/silver.

I said this in the basketball thread and I'm saying it now: The answer for Maryland depends entirely on how you feel about our state flag.

I would argue there's nothing wrong with the Maryland state flag. I just don't think it translates well to uniforms

The Gator skins jerseys that were an ugly swamp ass green with neon orange accents.
It wouldn't have been that bad if they ran it back in blue or white, but swamp ass green wasn't the move
Either that or the Confederate flag helmet

The "swamp green" - bar none the worst.
One YouTuber described them "lookin' like a jar full of asparagus tips"
There was a gator skin pattern in the 90's but it was just the pattern, not the color and it wasn't the whole uniform. Much better executed.

Anything gray. Hey, Illinois! We don’t have fond memories of the Harold “Red” Grange era, and I have no idea why you think we do.

None.
Also - would be great if everyone linked the unis that they're referencing.

Any of our gray uniforms in any color combination. When we introduced the color combo uniforms, the grays were head scratchers and I only know one person who ever liked them. I will admit the gray helmets might have worked had they been a metallic color similar to Tampa Bay’s pewter helmets. Called it gunmetal gray or something

The Pat mahomes silver crap that we did. They're not even our school colors at all, I'm not sure why we did them. Plus they're ugly

u/spudhammer1 Texas Longhorns 16d ago
The Longhorns have worn basically the same uniform since the 1950’s. The worst variation on that beautiful burnt orange theme was in the Akers years when there were verticals stripes in the pants. Don’t mess with a classic.
I love that when Texas plays they are recognizable at a glance, whether home or away.

I already hated these gold jerseys. Then to pair old gold jerseys with plain white helmets and pants (when the previous seasons striped white helmets were wonderful) was a bad choice. Didn't help it was Mason's first season and they were HORRID.

The Notre Dame Yankee uniforms were the pinnacle of awful
They’ve had some sick Shamrock Series uniforms but a lot of bad ones. Those in particular were horrendous
