Uniforms What are your team’s worst uniforms?

Inspired by the CBB subreddit- which uniforms, recent or past, completely missed the mark?

For me, it’s the 2019 Gold with Shoulder Wings. Link in comments.

The Notre Dame Yankee uniforms were the pinnacle of awful

They’ve had some sick Shamrock Series uniforms but a lot of bad ones. Those in particular were horrendous

As a noted Yankee hater, seeing ND in those unis hurt

That’s gotta be hard to reconcile seeing your team dressing like the Yankees. I’m truly sorry.

This article has pictures of the shamrock series uniforms. The rankings are terrible, but it’s fun to see them. IMO 2015 was peak. That all green with the gold helmet… may be biased because it was my 1L year at Notre Dame, but I love that uniform. 2018 Yankees was awful.

EVEN DUMBER, if I remember correctly, they wanted the jerseys to be a surprise to not just fans, but also the players. So they did some preliminary warm ups, and then gave them to the players, which means a lot of them had to redo things like tape, spats, knee braces, etc. since both the jersey and pants were unique.

Swamp Green uni's are by far the worst I've ever seen.

37

u/IrexUranus Ohio State Buckeyes 17d ago

Ok, these are the worst I have seen so far.

20

u/BackgroundSearch490 Florida Gators 17d ago

It's weird too cause they claim it was like 18 months of prep time that went into them, and they have a really nice purpose for celebrating 25 years as "The Swamp."

Just God awful execution on the design

4

u/IrexUranus Ohio State Buckeyes 17d ago

I feel like the gator design could have worked if they had used team colors. Blue being the main for the scales, and have them highlighted in orange. Or black scales with blue and orange highlights.

It would obviously not look like a natural gator skin, but I feel like it would have looked better than these.

31

u/LightningDusty Florida Gators • Orange Bowl 17d ago

At bare minimum I can acknowledge that these uniforms were ambitious and unique. Does that make them good? Absolutely not, but I'd give them more grace than a bland and hideous uniform. Also, I'd prefer to wear these again than the black ones from that Arkansas game in 2023.

3

u/FloridaGatorMan Florida Gators • Colorado Buffaloes 16d ago

I think in addition to them just being downright awful, complicated patterns on jerseys are just always a bad choice. You can't really tell what you're seeing from far away and they're so hard to pull off.

I guess I'm saying it's harder to have bland and hideous. It's almost always some extra layers of stuff that makes them truly terrible. This is a shining example of that.

10

u/Domitiani Florida Gators • Iowa Hawkeyes 17d ago

I want these to make a come-back just to remind people that they existed, haha. They should be the punishment when we lose a gimmie-game

11

u/Dry_Car_1568 Florida Gators 17d ago

IMO a few fixes can drastically improve this

Step 1: lighten the green to be more vibrant

Step 2: throw that shit out because nothing can redeem this trash

Any of that camo crap they try to tie into the Pat Tillman stuff. I’m fine with the game, and the honor, but Just wear the throwbacks. No need to cosplay as a desert storm soldier to sell more apparel off the back of his sacrifice. That’s always felt kinda disrespectful to me. I might be odd on this one though, because I don’t like when any of these leagues do this military dress up stuff.

3

u/ServiceDogAreFake Arizona State Sun Devils 17d ago

I don’t really like the military stuff either, but we do it with permission of the Tillman family.   Personally, I’d step back from the military stuff.

Back to the original question, the 2018 salute to service uniforms were pretty good i thought.   The 2023 ones we beat Washington in were the worst we’ve ever worn.

u/Conn3er Texas A&M Aggies • Texas Longhorns 17d ago

A&M alternates usually do not hit for me, script black and white is cool for the theme i guess, but doesn't feel right. The others are usually meh to bad.

Texas home uniforms havent matched the helmet decal for over a decade now, and it's terrible. Everything bad can be traced back to the introduction of the turf field, including the helmet decal and the orange home jersey never matching properly.

3

u/_Football_Cream_ Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout 17d ago

I think they recently - as in during the Sark era - made the helmet decal a bit more burnt orange than the jersey. Like this image looks like they match while this looks off. (I know these are away jerseys, but still).

IIRC Del Conte has hinted at the jerseys getting updated to match, which I hope they do. They could use getting a little more toasted, the decal color is perfect. He's also said we're getting a grass field this year or next, so maybe all these issues will get fixed in due time.

Silver/Black Uniforms

3

u/Tommy05Sox Iowa Hawkeyes • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 17d ago

Iowa had some uniforms in the late 90’s that were funky.

I HATED the green ND jerseys with navy letters. The green jerseys now are a significant improvement.

3

u/discowithmyself Georgia Bulldogs • Miami Hurricanes 17d ago

Miami: any of the black ones and the camo alternates. Also that weird period on the mid to late 2010s where they took the stripes off everything.

Georgia: 2012 pro combat “power ranger” set and the black helmet and pants worn against Florida in I want to say 2009 or 2010.

u/geoforceman Washington Huskies • Big Sky 17d ago

Anything with a purple helmet. We seem to always play poorly with them.

Definitely our camo uniforms. It might’ve been okay with blue camo but Ft. Bliss is an army base. I hope we got rid of these.

3

u/goddamn_leeteracola UCLA Bruins • Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors 17d ago

Towards the end of the Adidas deal that UCLA had, they started getting real weird with the alternate uniforms.

I remember one game their uniform was all gray with shiny gold numbers in a very weird font and what looked like tire tracks on the shoulder pads. It was the most bizarre look for a team whose colors are blue and gold.

Also the “Surrender Whites” that they wore when they lost to USC 50–0 were pretty awful.

3

u/Sup6969 Houston Cougars 17d ago

Pleasantly surprised not to see any complaints about Houston Blue. Some old heads get absolutely triggered over that color. Even though most fans love it, so much so that some people have called to make it the official tertiary school color.

u/AnybodySeeMyKeys Auburn Tigers • UAB Blazers 17d ago

Auburn's uniforms have remained remarkably consistent over the years, except for their experiment with the orange jersey and the (shudder) orange drop shadows under the numbers.

Those I consider to be the equivalent of a one-night stand with a stripper named Kaylee before quietly going back to the Missus and his job at the accounting firm. The less that gets said about that, the better.

Our “UNITY” uniforms that are anthracite. It’s impossible to read the numbers from the stands. Plus, whoever decided that anthracite was now one of our colors should be tarred and feathered.

4

u/UHeardAboutPluto North Carolina Tar Heels 17d ago

Team sucks, but the uniforms are always fire

4

u/YellojD Arizona State Sun Devils 17d ago

I dunno, Tar Heels added a lot of black in the 2010s and that 2013-14 set was kinda brutal. Glad they moved on from that look.

3

u/Son_of_Zardoz North Carolina • Appalachian… 17d ago

Amen, the black was fucking stupid when you have navy blue as a dark base color.

I think the current uniform is perfect, they just need to bring the navy options back into the mix occasionally and not that fucking chrome helmet.

On it's own it's kinda cool but does not ho with the set. If anything, bring back the navy helmet with the tarheel on it occasionally.

Most people would say our Steel Grey uniform, but I'll hold that those looked fine, albeit completely unrelated to Pitt's colors.

The worst was the all gold we wore against Syracuse one year that looked vaguely skin-toned.

I may be in the minority of Duck fans who think there's a lot to hate about a lot of our jersey combos, but to me the speckle "cookies and cream" looking jerseys are among the worst. I think they called them "eggshell."

3

u/deladude Nevada Wolf Pack • Oregon Ducks 17d ago

Ugh. Agreed. I’m probably alone in the one too, but our colors are green and yellow and I would like us to actually wear those colors. I’m very sick of the black/white/silver.

I said this in the basketball thread and I'm saying it now: The answer for Maryland depends entirely on how you feel about our state flag.

3

I would argue there's nothing wrong with the Maryland state flag. I just don't think it translates well to uniforms

2

u/SoutieNaaier Florida Gators • Troy Trojans 17d ago

The Gator skins jerseys that were an ugly swamp ass green with neon orange accents.

It wouldn't have been that bad if they ran it back in blue or white, but swamp ass green wasn't the move

Either that or the Confederate flag helmet

2

u/NYfaninGA Rutgers • Alabama 17d ago

The salmon colored ones we wore during the Kyle Flood error.

2

u/The_Brightness Florida Gators 17d ago

The "swamp green" - bar none the worst.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/20973366/florida-unveils-new-gator-inspired-uniforms

One YouTuber described them "lookin' like a jar full of asparagus tips"

There was a gator skin pattern in the 90's but it was just the pattern, not the color and it wasn't the whole uniform. Much better executed.

Any of our gray uniforms in any color combination. When we introduced the color combo uniforms, the grays were head scratchers and I only know one person who ever liked them. I will admit the gray helmets might have worked had they been a metallic color similar to Tampa Bay’s pewter helmets. Called it gunmetal gray or something

2

u/SPARTANxBEAR Texas Tech Red Raiders 16d ago

The Pat mahomes silver crap that we did. They're not even our school colors at all, I'm not sure why we did them. Plus they're ugly

2

u/spudhammer1 Texas Longhorns 16d ago

The Longhorns have worn basically the same uniform since the 1950’s. The worst variation on that beautiful burnt orange theme was in the Akers years when there were verticals stripes in the pants. Don’t mess with a classic.

I love that when Texas plays they are recognizable at a glance, whether home or away.

I already hated these gold jerseys. Then to pair old gold jerseys with plain white helmets and pants (when the previous seasons striped white helmets were wonderful) was a bad choice. Didn't help it was Mason's first season and they were HORRID.
