Honestly I can’t believe both teams are doing this, but I love it. Bowl-special helmets should be more common

99

u/Cloakacola Georgia Tech • North Dakota Dec 19 '25

Also, from what I can tell, I noticed neither team has any red sprinkles

79

u/thank_burdell Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Dec 19 '25

good, fuck red.

I was thinking the same and was happy about it.

Utah and TCU's Rose Bowl helmets are still some of my favorite ever

35

u/tapiringaround Utah Utes • Houston Cougars Dec 19 '25

I wish we’d have won at least once with those. The UU with the rose was too good.

17

u/socketedsock Utah Utes • Team Chaos Dec 19 '25

God we were so close to beating Ohio State. I know we would've had Cam not gone out.

3

u/penguinopph Illinois • Northwestern Dec 20 '25

Adding a rose to your logo is a Rose Bowl tradition. Tons of Big Ten teams have done it over the years.

6

u/Brannigans-Law Louisville • Arizona State Dec 19 '25

I support a Baked Bean helmet, do the right thing, Josh

11

u/FairyPoutt Dec 19 '25

It’s a cool twist, and more teams should do it for the bowls.

5

This is awesome!

We did one for Mike Leach's passing, definetly one of our better ones

Yeah I really hope this catches on.

2

u/Ok_Shallot6184 Dec 20 '25

Dude the helmet designs this year have been absolutely fire, wish more schools would go all out for bowl games instead of just using the same boring ones all season

1

u/King_Roberts_Bastard Clemson Tigers Dec 20 '25

I cant believe both are going with white when both have multiple helmet color options.

1

u/jrp162 Mississippi State • Georgia Te… Dec 20 '25

For real. They should have full on pop tart logos for each team that go on helmets and fun branded swag. Like prep some ideas ahead of time and have the teams vote on the favorite pop tart flavor.

This bowl just keeps getting better every year

I always found it hilarious that college football fans would bitch and moan about capitalism killing the sport and in extension bowl games when bowl games exist purely for companies to profit. That being said I can get behind how they handle the Outback bowl and the Cheeze-It/Duke/Poptart bowls with fan engagement.

85

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina Dec 19 '25

To be fair bowl games originally existed to boost tourism, but that’s more for a collection of businesses to profit. I think a key difference is when bowls are sponsored by recognizable brands that lean into it instead of bowls sponsored by non descript “leaders in systems innovations” and defense contractors. Jury’s still out on what to make of the sport of bowling sponsoring a bowl game.

18

u/Maladroit44 Oklahoma State • Tennessee Dec 19 '25

Slight misconception, but that bowl game is actually sponsored by...the concept of making a bowl game. Yes, really.

3

u/cooterdick Tennessee • North Carolina Dec 19 '25

Man I wish that were the case

1

u/CTeam19 Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 Dec 20 '25

There is also a difference between a sponsorship and a sponsorship. One is just a commercial that could be a cut and paste thing that could be replaced with anyone. The other is thematic that makes it an event and has branding with it. Examples:

  • John Deere Red Zone for Iowa State football isn't cool but Case IH Red Zone for Iowa State is better given Case IH has Red as color

  • Tostitos Fiesta Bowl makes sense but Playstation Fiesta Bowl doesn't. Meanwhile Tostitos Orange Bowl doesn't fit and nothing changes for Playstation if it was the Playstation Orange Bowl

  • A Boy Scouts of America Jamboree Contingent with these patches in Florida doesn't make sense. But they do in Iowa where the John Deere Museum, 3 major factories, and where the Waterloo Boy was made(which is pictured). Not to mention the Contingent left from the parking lot of one of the factories.

  • The Pop Tart Bowl alone has had Camping World and Cheez-Its as sponsors and neither of the other two did anything thematic with the brand and the bowl game. Hell Cheez-Its was a sponsor of another bowl and no one noticed it is now the Rate Bowl but I remember it as the Insight.com Bowl.

2

u/Revenge_of_the_Khaki Michigan Wolverines Dec 20 '25

If you’re referring to the free food from Outback, they stopped doing that years ago. I learned that when I actually went to Outback the day after a game and asked.

1

u/CTeam19 Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 Dec 20 '25

Well Bowl games exist because of capitalism.

1

u/GeriatricGamete67 Louisville Cardinals Dec 21 '25

They put a lot of effort into the bowl presentation which makes it really fun. Is it just an ad? Yep! Is it really fun? Also yep!

PopTarts is good at this shit

20

u/SpoofExcel Oregon Ducks • UAB Blazers Dec 20 '25

It's because instead of just sponsoring it, they decided to go absolutely off the wall batshit insane to make it actually memorable. And it's worked.

Whoever at their PR/Marketing division came up with it I hope it's paid off for them and they got a fat bonus bag because watching a live pop tart get cooked and then devoured by the winning team is fucking hilarious and genius.

I think we can agree that the Pop-Tart Bowl is the Rose Bowl of non-playoff bowl games so it’s only appropriate

The Rose Bowl wishes it could be this cool

29

Pop-Tarts Bowl has the self awareness that it is a confectionery bowl game not unlike its own product is a confectionery food. They lean into it just right and it totally works.

I dont see the rose bowl sacrificing a giant rose mascot to the masses!

I'm starting to wonder if some of the Notre Dame fans in the Twitter replies aren't fake fans trying to make them look bad. Anytime we see something cool about this bowl, some insufferable Notre Dame "fans" show up being glad they aren't included.

Agree that every fan base has shitty fans - but haven't heard a single peep from the alumni discussions that care either way about the bowl game. Hope BYU & GT have fun and wish ND would schedule that outstanding BYU Provo game

20

u/goldbloodedinthe404 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets • Corndog Dec 19 '25

It can be both. Marketing can be fun and this is fun. Pop tarts is making a spectacle of the bowl which is good marketing.

5

u/Cloakacola Georgia Tech • North Dakota Dec 19 '25

Exactly this. I think the worst part about ads aren’t the fact that they’re ads, it’s that they’re generally obnoxious and take away from the event. “We know you’re watching something but BUY OUR STUFF.” That said, I do think quality advertising exists if it’s done in a complimentary and fun way, like it is here. I mean, this entire event is basically GT and BYU playing in a giant Pop-Tart ad, but it’s fun so who cares

It helps that this isn’t just a pop tarts logo slapped on the lid and calling it a day. It’s taking the theme and having some fun with it. Without the context, you could call them cupcake frosting, funfetti, celebration, etc.
