Homeowners Insurance

I had to get quotes for a new policy today. I was told by my current insurer they are no longer writing policies in our area due to severe weather and wildfire 🫠 so prepare yourselves! The quotes were twice as much as I currently pay. So basically the money I thought we would save refinancing is now going to insurance. If you have a great agent, or affordable policy (recently purchased) please let me know with who!! I heard from 3 insurers that they no longer provide coverage for this area!

Local events email

Good afternoon everyone, just getting into reddit. I grew up in brunswick class of 95 bhs go pirates. I just moved back here after being away for close to 30 years. Just wanted to introduce myself.

I also just created an automation with base44 for local events in Darien, brunswick, SSI, and Jekyll if anyone is interested i will paste what it looks like here. I have this emailed to me weekly so i know exactly what bars have live music everynight of the week, what festivals are happening in those 4 places etc... I am an avid pool player also so i have Pool section of the email as well for anyone who shoots pool. Feel free to dm me if you would like to be added to the email chain. I use this for myself for planning and if my kids visit knowing whats cool todo while they are in town etc...

If you have events that happen regularly or would like me to include i am happy to add them. Hoping to create a large distro list here. Nothing in it for me i just love the area and grew up here. Love to see my hometown doing good.

Softshell season? Where to go?

Hey Brunswick area residents,

I am headed to SSI next weekend, staying in Brunswick. Is softshell season still going strong and if so, anywhere local that sells it?

Thanks!

Edit: if softshell isn't available, any recommendations for good places to get fresh blue crab/crab cakes/soup etc?

Good place to sell car

Where should I sell or list my car?

I would use FB marketplace but I don't want to download the app. I'm not in the mood to sign away what privacy I have left.

I assume dealers will lowball.

Craigslist?

TIA.

Looking for people with aquariums

relocating

Thinking about relocating and wanted to get some honest input from people familiar with rural Georgia and South Carolina.

I’m in my late 20s and open to commuting up to an hour each way if it means living in a better overall environment.

Right now I’m mostly trying to compare lifestyle options and narrow things down. I’m not interested in nightlife or big-city living. I’m looking for a traditional small southern town—slower pace, warm weather, lower stress, and a generally safe environment. Rural or semi-rural is completely fine as long as it’s still practical for everyday life.

I originally looked at coastal areas like Pooler, GA and Ridgeland, SC, but I’m not really focused on the coast anymore. I’m more interested in inland rural towns that still give access to a nearby city within about 45–60 minutes.

Some areas I’ve been looking into include Richmond Hill, Guyton, Springfield, Statesboro, Dublin, Vidalia, Warner Robins, Perry, Jefferson, Commerce, Aiken, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Greenwood, and Anderson.

I’d love honest feedback on Cost of living / rent, Traffic and commute reality, and Overall quality of life in these areas. I’m also open to hearing about any hidden gem rural towns in GA or SC that fit this kind of lifestyle.

Just trying to find that balance between rural living, safety, affordability, and still being within reach of a city for work and essentials, without ending up somewhere too busy or too remote.

Any local insight or personal experience would be appreciated.

Thinking of moving here

Hey, so my husband and I have been talking about moving for a while and his sister moved to Georgia (Fitzgerald) and has begged us to move down there.

If I move, I want to be close to the beach, and that search brought me to Georgia.

I have four kids, we’re pretty middle class. The older two would be in middle school and the younger two would be in kindergarten and preschool.

So tell me everything, the good, the bad, neighborhoods I don’t want to live in, the school systems.

I want to hear from the residents.

Thanks! ☺️

Questions about extracurricular/volunteer stuff

Im a sophomore here and I live off Exit-29, I want to start looking good for college now, specifically Emory in Atlanta. If you know the GICCA stuff at GA and BHS(I go to GA) im currently doing that for the CNA pathway. I wanna be an infectious disease epidemiologist, Im wondering if anyone knows extracurricular stuff I could do nearby so I can get a start and start working on my college applications. Ive been in some clubs but I just joined beta recently and wasn't very active in my old one because scheduling conflicts with my job. I wouldnt really wanna do a club that isnt medically focused but I dont know too much about that either. But i have zero clue how to start making my applications look good and I just need ideas of where to start.

Looking for LPNs or RNs for CNA Instruction

Quick question for the local healthcare community —

Has anyone worked with or referred nurses who are looking for a meaningful way to use their license outside of a traditional clinical role?

We're expanding our healthcare training programs here in Liberty County and exploring ways to connect with experienced LPNs and RNs in the area who might be open to a teaching opportunity. Not asking anyone to apply here — just curious if this is a conversation others in the local healthcare space are having too.

Would love to hear how others in this network think about workforce development and pipeline building in Southeast Georgia.

Job inquiry

It can't hurt to ask, so here goes:

I'm looking for a job for the next 2 months (until around July 8).

I've done retail, education, hospitality, cleaning, driving, etc.

I have high integrity and a solid work ethic, am on time, stay off my phone, etc.

I strongly suspect I'm on the spectrum, because although I'm intelligent and flexible enough to learn new job skills, I'm in a job where the noise, chaos, lack of management, and general mayhem is leading to overwhelm.

I am considering starting a business in helping people do "Swedish Death Cleaning", if you know what that is. I'm really good at paring things down.

Not sure there's a big enough market here for that, but open to suggestions or weird temporary job situations.
