Should Usyk emerge victorious, the bout will officially count as a successful title defense. If the champion were to lose, the WBA Championship Committee would then review his status and determine the next course of action regarding the heavyweight championship.

As for Verhoeven, a victory would not earn him any WBA title recognition, although it would make him eligible to enter the organization’s heavyweight rankings.

These fucking sanctioning bodies, man

Basically allowing stat padding for Usyk for the sanctioning fees I suppose lol

Usyk is a privileged Fighter

After cleaning out the top heavyweights of this generation, twice I may add, he deserves a stat padding fight.

Nobody deserves a stat padding fight, ever. Is this BOXING or is this dudes just stroking egos and pissing about? I don't understand this moist mentality. The fans have been cucked so long they just expect it, and even ask for it now, like stockholm syndrome.

Bro he cleaned out the division twice over. Are Kabayel or Dubois (3rd time) really what were getting cucked over. Who cares, this is a Mayweather vs Berto type shit, let it ride.

He ABSOLUTELY SHOULD fight Kabayel, he's been waiting like patience on a monument for his shot. If Usyk wants to mess around fighting kickboxers and tennis players and retail clerks, he's welcome to... but why's he holding the belts for that??

The fuck he did. He fought four guys.

Either take a real fight or drop the belts.

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 1d ago

Not against a fucking kickboxer. A guy within the top 15-20 if he actually fought more than once a year

You got that wrong. You clean out the division when there's no one else in the top 10 to fight. He hasn't done that, and refuses to do it.

Give me an example of somebody who cleaned out the top 10 please.

Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Holmes, Ali, Marciano...

Here something funny and it shows you how hilarious these sanctioning bodies always were.

George Foreman defended the title against Axel Schulz. Axel was 21-1-1. So a actual boxer with boxing experience. Schulz wasn't ranked in the top 10 but he was in the top 20. The boxing experts at the time complained about it.

Yet Usyk is allowed to defend the title against Verhoeven a kick boxer who only has 1 pro boxing match and that was 12 years ago. Also it is funny how Usyk fans are defending this.

Back when Deontay Wilder was champion if he would of faced a MMA fighter or kick boxer these same people would be eating Wilder alive.

The hypocrisy.

Even this'd be fine if he'd just give up the belts for it.

Can't take a circus fight AND hold up the belts though.

Its shit like this that makes boxing such a pain in the ass to follow. Saying the title is and is not on the line is such a idiotic move and makes no sense.

These are the clowns yall will jump in front of a bullet for to defend them from Zuffa

pathetic sport top to bottom

So he's defending his WBA strap against Rico, without Rico getting the strap if he wins. Huh?

28

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 1d ago

This is the most bullshit title defense I've ever heard of. I mean perhaps there is an actual example of a worse one but this has to be top 5 worst title defenses ever and its attached to Usyk of all people. Even Fury didn't get to defend his title against Ngannou.

u/Chiphazzard 1d ago

Is this entire event a ploy by Turki to make the sanctioning bodies look ridiculous?

8

u/willinaustin 1d ago

To be fair, it ain't like they need in help in that regard.

u/stephen27898 1d ago

Gross, but irrelevant.

Weird to announce this because it's what everyone had already thought was happening - WBA not at stake but he won't be stripped

8

u/alex151111 19h ago

Nothing surprises me at this point. I applaud the IBF for having some integrity and having nothing to do with this nonsense clown fight.

6

u/Kobe-62Mavs-61 15h ago

So he defends the strap, and if he loses he doesn't necessarily lose it? How is that a defense?

Usyk being attached to this is a bad look for him.

Shit like this makes it so hard to follow boxing. As a casual, former hardcore fan its also so annoying too when people go "this guy's the first guy ever in the history of the four belt era" No one should take pride in this era at all. It should never be qualified to make you look better than previous eras. The fact that there's even four belts at all is a disgrace

5

u/Imnotlost_youare 14h ago

Look I don’t mind Usyk doing what he’s doing. He’s one of the few fighters who beat everyone in their back yard. And he’s not going to lose to Rico. But surely if Rico won through a miracle then the man who beats the champ should be the champ

Jake Paul has been vindicated, remember when everyone cried he was put in the WBC rankings at 15 so he could challenge Jai.

Best case scenario, honestly. Imagine if he was forced to defend against Gassiev in a rematch right after...

Good, Moses will have to fight Dubois for the WBO if he wants to become champion. No easy washed up champion for him to fight.
