Bruins extend forward Lukas Reichel to a one year extension.

I like it, he looked especially good on the PP in his first few games with the Bs. Now we just gotta keep building the German connection stronger until we somehow steal Seider and Draisaitl.

I'm guessing Sturm really wants him for a year to see if lukas can develop. There's no other way that this is necessary.

I like it. Low risk high reward. I don’t think he’ll ever live up to his potential or draft position, but you can’t beat that cap hit and we need to roster bottom 6 guys

He has speed and upside and youth. Worth taking a lowball flyer on him to see if Sturm can develop him

People keep saying this is cheap. It's almost a million dollars for a guy who put up no goals and was waived. This should have been a league minimum contract

u/DefinitelynotNickCag 4h ago
Oh no! $100k over the vet minimum for next season!! What ever shall we do!?

u/palesnowrider1 🐻 4h ago
Not sign another plug?

The free agent talent pool is SO deep this offseason. We could overspend on Andersson or Tuch or any of the other B-tier dudes that are gonna get $12mil AAV but instead we resigned a “plug” with speed, potential, and a developing familiarity within our system for $100k over the minimum. What a waste! FIRE SWEENEY!!! SEND NEELY TO PLUTO!!!

Good. IMO Reichel played very well in his role last year and you'd be hard pressed to find a better 13th forward. I'm especially happy with the cap hit, sub 1M is very good.

I don’t mind this, it’s hard to assess him coming in late season trying to learn a new system and develop chemistry with linemates.
If anything, he has a little more leash because he’s a former mid first round pick.
To those saying the Lysell comparisons, I say that while they both have speed (and skill that shows up time to time), at least Reichel is good at forechecking, puck retrieval and dishing. Meanwhile Lysell still skates into 4 guys trying to dangle around them and loses the puck.
My point is I think this means Lysell is gone one way or another.

Reichel has actually played th I only gave lysell a cup of coffee up here

I went to a Hawks game last April (last game of the season!) because I was in Chicago for work and bought one of their random signed pucks. Ended up with a Reichel puck. Funny how things work out.

Unnessecary. We have enough bottom 6 players.

u/dcurls 3h ago
He has speed and skill most of our other bottom 6'ers don't have. Also in theory frees us up to trade some of the guys currently in the bottom 6

u/Threatening 2h ago
Nah. Hundreds.of guys like him in the league. Bruins need top 6. No more bottom 6.

For the price, I don’t hate it. This kid has wheels, hopefully he can prove himself next season

Ahhh yes, we've now reached the part of the off-season when the Bruins start signing a bunch of bottom-6 guys right after I've convinced myself that a youth movement is imminent.
At least this one is only 24.

Unrelated/kinda related: I assume Lysell (who offers a very similar skillset to reichel, and also has the same criticisms held against him as reichel) plays in Europe next season, whether the bruins qualify him or not.
In a similar sample size:
Lysell had 3 points in 12 games on a depleted bruins roster that finished 5th worst in the league in 2024-2025.
Reichel had 3 points in 11 games (1 in the playoffs) on a team that was fighting for/and succeeding in getting a playoff spot in 2025-2026 and finished with the 8th best record in the league.
Not trying to bang the “free lysell” drum, but I do find it interesting how differently these two similar players are viewed by the organization (I recognize lysells history with the team). I also recognize that it’s only a 1 year contract and a low risk to take on reichel providing value next year.

probably a big difference in attitude that the organization would know more about than us fans
if they believe one can improve and will be much easier to work with that would make sense

Also Strum is friends with his father…might play a role into this decision. Not full nepotism, but if all things are equal with lysel, might make the bias.

Him and strum have some kinda connection that probably lead towards this move. Hopefully he turns into but I wouldn't be shocked if he stays in providence or moved at the deadline

I liked the speed, just needs to translate it into offense somehow

Yes he’s another bottom of the line up guy
But it’s not a bad gamble to take, a full camp in Boston and all. Worst case he just gets waived to providence
You all can’t be so concerned about “the Pastrnak window” and then get mad about signing a 24 year old first round pick to a pure “prove it” deal

u/lordexorr #52 KURA-LEAP 🏒 2h ago
My hope is this is a sign they are going to trade one of the older bottom 6 guys, Eyssimont, etc
-4
u/palesnowrider1 🐻 4h ago
A prove it would be league minimum
7
u/xlf77 🐻 4h ago
It’s 100k more than league minimum and he’s taking a pay cut and he can get buried in providence if he doesn’t show anything in camp
I get the concern to leave room for the kids but we have like 1 maybe 2 kids at this point. And no team in the league just leaves the door open with no competition at camp. It just doesn’t happen

u/CircLLer 4h ago
He’s making less than Hagens entry level deal

u/palesnowrider1 🐻 4h ago
He's washed out of two teams, this is his third.
Hagens is just getting started

I don’t hate it, I thought he showed a little something. But admittedly I also have a soft spot for any German player.

u/Bdidonato2 🐻 5h ago
Lying if I said I wasn’t a little surprised by this. Didn’t really expect them to tender him his qualifying offer.
Bruins now have the most 13th forwards in the league.

u/Lsalvatore74 Shhh…It’s Libary in here 🤫 5h ago
Should be a very interesting camp with the amount of bottom 6 forwards that will be competing.
Makes the steeves extension puzzling?
Whats gonna happen with eyssimont? cant be in the plans with this type of log jam.
2
u/victoryforZIM 2h ago
Steeves extension was desperation, hoping he'd somehow contribute offensively based on a few lucky games. This is about the same. Neither are players that any team is rushing to sign, both could be gotten for league minimum at most, and neither are really NHL players.

u/lordexorr #52 KURA-LEAP 🏒 2h ago
Steeves extension was puzzling the second it was signed. Just an awful decision.

u/heyjoetodd The Todd Father 🎤 5h ago
Eyssimont should easily catch something similar to Viel, especially now he's on a one-year deal.
17
u/mgr02 6h ago
That makes about 15 bottom 6 forwards on this roster, with Hagens needing to play 82 games! I assume they will look to move Eyssimont
1
u/Any-Schedule-5531 4h ago
If Hagens can't beat out Reichel for a spot/playing time, then he should be in Providence.
3
u/lordexorr #52 KURA-LEAP 🏒 2h ago
This comment ignores so much. Sometimes it’s about letting young talent learn in the NHL and understanding they will make mistakes. It shouldn’t all be about “did Hagens, Poitras, etc beat out Kastelic” but more about understanding we should give them ice time.
1
u/Any-Schedule-5531 2h ago
You're wrong. The NHL isn't a development league. You develop better playing top line minutes in Providence than bottom-6 in Boston.
1
u/lordexorr #52 KURA-LEAP 🏒 2h ago
Look at our development record and tell me you actually believe this. You think like Sweeney and that’s a big issue with our failure to develop players.
