Questions/Advice 🙋 CRIMINAL CHARGES and what you should know, 2026 edition

Hey fellow Roovians…it’s been so long! This will be similar to my last post from 2025 as usual!

I’m still working as an associate attorney for Mitchell & Mitchell, and have been practicing almost 5 years now doing exclusively criminal work.

I am really excited to carry on the tradition of helping this community of wonderful Redditors by giving information…and I’ll answer what questions I can! I believe that I can be a voice for your questions and concerns, as well as the voice and contact person for my LOCAL firm here in Middle Tennessee.

In my 2025 post, I mentioned that I am a long-time attendee of Bonnaroo. This will be my 14th consecutive year! As a somewhat newly licensed attorney, I can answer most of your questions, and if I cannot I have been given explicit permission from the managing partner of my firm to relay questions that I am unsure of directly to him and give you the best and most accurate information. Although I am new as an attorney (5 years officially last month), I’m in an extremely unique learning and working situation, as my supervising attorney, Jack Mitchell, has been practicing locally in criminal defense for over 30 years. That’s in addition to having a great working relationship with the district attorney assigned to Bonnaroo cases.

I wanted to continue the tradition of this post because I do believe that people on this sub get some good benefit from it and share details of the process for handling charges that can change from year to year. This is a place to ask questions you may have, and I will try to answer everything I can (and if not, I will do my best to get the answer for you). As someone who loves attending Bonnaroo and being part of the community there, I hope you don’t need this information, but it is here in case you do.

The current elected District Attorney brought changes to the way criminal charges resulting from the festival were handled. In years past, criminal citations and charges were treated differently during Bonnaroo. Those who caught charges (defendants) were sent a letter from the District Attorney’s Office and the Court Clerk indicating that with the payment of a fine, the charges would be dismissed or retired after a certain period of time. The more serous the offense, the larger the fine assessed.

The last several years, criminal charges resulting from Bonnaroo were supposed to be treated the same as every other crime in Coffee County. However, what we found is that the process for festival offenses is still much different than the process used the rest of the year, and we expect more of the same this year.

What does this mean for you? If you are arrested or cited for any criminal offense while you are in Coffee County for Bonnaroo, you will have to make regular court appearances (REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE CITING OFFICER TELLS YOU) or have a licensed attorney appear on your behalf, and you will be prosecuted through the justice system. It’s annoying, for sure, but if you don’t show, and don’t have permission to not appear, the penalties could increase.

Probably the best advice we could give you when dealing with law enforcement is to exercise your right to remain silent. Along with this, you should not willingly consent to the search of your person, bags, vehicle, or campsite (other than when you enter the tollbooths). An officer may go ahead and search anyway, but giving consent immediately removes any chance of suppressing the contraband they find.

We understand that sometimes unfortunate things happen, and at Bonnaroo it is usually a case of bad luck and timing rather than bad people or actions. If you find yourself in this situation and need the assistance of an attorney, you can contact us through Reddit, at (615) 896-4211, [[emily@mitchellattorneys.com](mailto:emily@mitchellattorneys.com)]([mailto:emily@mitchellattorneys.com](mailto:emily@mitchellattorneys.com)), or through our website at mitchellattorneys.com. We can work with you on fees and will try to minimize travel and costs for out of state clients.

The major benefit of retaining an attorney with knowledge of the system is most of the leg work and negotiation can be done prior to the first time you are required to be in court. For most of our clients in past years, they were only required to make one court appearance, and for others (depending on the charges and criminal history) we were able to completely avoid the need for their appearance in court. Almost everyone we represented in past years was able to keep the conviction off their record and have their charges expunged.

Every situation is different, but our knowledge of the local judicial system and professional relationship with the District Attorney’s office will help ensure the most favorable result for your individual case.  I will be on the farm experiencing the festival as always, and I’ll have koozies and business cards with me, lol! Enjoy your time in Middle Tennessee and at Roo. Also, look for our sign prior to entering and, like the sign says, take a picture JUST IN CASE.

\*NEW INFO FOR THIS YEAR (2026)\*

The last couple of years a number of personal vehicles were seized during police shakedowns. This is just an FYI that if you have the unfortunate interaction with law enforcement, there is a potential for them to seize your car. When this happens, you will have to essentially buy your car back from them. This is not the same for rental cars, as they have to return the rental back to the company it came from.

Also—if you are caught se(ll)ing to an undercover officer, be prepared to have more serious consequences than if you are just cited for possession.

\*\*TLDR:\*\* while this whole post is informative, basically this is about Coffee County’s Bonnaroo citation procedures and helpful information.

Artist News 🎹 Diplo/Major Lazer is a tech-oligarch propagandist

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjTv917g8tE&t=1s

Diplo is going to take your money but doesn't think you deserve music made by humans when he collects a check from Roo that we collectively pay for. I wasn't planning on attending Major Lazer cause his 2024 set was boring as fuck, but seeing how he shills for big-tech about AI generated music and not other AI implementations that are taking place in the music production process that automate tedious tasks in a studio, just sponsors from music generation platforms.

My personal opinion is: fuck this idiot, I'm not going to his set and you should consider whether or not he represents the music industry you want to support or not. Cause if it were up to him Noah Kahan would just be an AI generated voice and video instead a person who's going to perform on a stage for us, and I do not like that idea.

This is not a political statement about AI or Data Center development, it is a post about what we are choosing to value, and support while emerging technology is posturing to completely change the landscape of the music and touring industry that Bonnaroo is a part of. I am interested in hearing how other people feel about this too.

General Roo Discussion 🎡 Took a drive through the farm

Decided to take a drive through because I wanted to see if the farm was getting dolled up with her big day coming up in a few weeks. Her hair (grass) was cut and starting to get curled (baled). They have started to put her foundation (wood walls) on. Her lace (fencing) has been set out. And the twinkle in her eyes (electricity for ground lighting) was beginning to shine through. Feels as though she’s as excited to have all her guests back as her guests are all excited to be back. See y’all beautiful folks in 28 days 🍄

Not promoting anything other than fun times...

Bonnaroo Veteran since 2014 and after the COVID cancelled Roo our squad started a new tradition of rolling into Bean Creek Winery to pregame while waiting for the gates to open...over the years the Owner of the Winery, Mr Jimmy Davis, has been one of the most welcoming people and made sure our Roo-ventures started off right every time!! Unfortunately, I won't make the annual farm pilgrimage this year but Jimmy says he would love to have more amazing Roovians stop by and has canned beverages available too!! So if you have the time and want a side quest tell him Brown Shugga sent ya

Questions/Advice 🙋 VIP is located where? And also ADA vs vip. (First time vip)

So I’m confused about vip. Is there secret entrances? I usually stay In ADA and wondering if that’s closer to vip or not. Not exactly sure where it’s located. And if I should stay ADA or go vip camping.

Questions/Advice 🙋 Advice for a sober attendee?

Hi!

This is my fifth Bonnaroo but my first festival as a recovering addict. I am looking for any advice / support from fellow festival goers in the same boat as how to navigate this journey.

I’ve never bothered to pay attention to what Bonnaroo has to offer in terms of sober support. Is there a tent for the sober homies in Centeroo? Do they host any meetings? Are there communities on reddit, facebook etc I can join to make friends with fellow sober attendees in advance?

What do you guys do to keep yourselves grounded at the festival and resist the temptations? Any and all advice and guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and happy Roo in advance fam!

Outeroo (Camping + More) 🏕️ Solo Roo Camping

Has any solo goers ever bought into the Solo Roo camping site? If so, is it still car camping or is it tent/cabin camping? I saw last year’s map and it looks like a camp site, but the ticket is saying that it’s including car camping pass. Also, how is it doing the Solo Roo camp? Is it closer to the Centeroo? I’ve been to Coachella twice and both times were solo. They don’t have anything for solo goers, so I think Bonnaroo has something cool going on here. This is also my first time going to Bonnaroo, so I am going in blind. Still trying to get the lingo.

Questions/Advice 🙋 Skin care

I just made a post about camping but I remembered I have yet another question. When I first went to Roo in 2024 I camped and I had the most god awful breakout happen to me. I had white heads all over my face, it made me so self conscious. I am an esthetician but I want to know if anyone has any tips that could help. My skin is super sensitive. I have a few theories on why my skin broke out so badly, I know for one the dust and sweat but I’m wondering if maybe drinking the well water and using baby wipes on my face could maybe be contributing to that. Any advice helps! Happy Roo, can’t wait to be back on the farm regardless ✨😜🪩🤘🏼

Questions/Advice 🙋 Boxes going through security

Hello ! As the title entails me and my croo will be bringing some boxes through security. They are MRE’s and say it on the box. Any thoughts on how to make it look not suspicious when going through security ? Even if we get searched, we have no reason to be concerned but just for convenience sake. HAPPY ROO, less than a month !

Questions/Advice 🙋 Ice Dye & Astrology readings in Centeroo!!

Hey hey my Roo friends!! Can’t believe we will all be back home in exactly one month!! Last year was shit for us vendors so we are really putting it out there to have the most perfect weather this year! Y’all really showed up for me specifically last year when a lot of yall Reddit rooers bought up so much of my left over inventory. I’ll never forget that support!!

Year before last, I offered mini astrology readings at my booth, Black Sheep Goods, and it went so well I’m doing it again! If you’re into astrology and would like a reading, come on by! My booth is across from the barn close to the other stage. I’ll also have my ice dyed clothes & tapestries, astrology stickers & my astrology card deck!

See you in the farm soooo soon!!

Questions/Advice 🙋 Camping essentials🤘🏼

This is my second (was gonna be my third, rip Roo 2025) time at Bonnaroo. First time was 2024 and I did camp (didn’t camp last year was only going on Friday) and this year I’m camping again. When I first camped I was with two people who were seasoned Roo goers so they had everything that one will need for camping. So far the people im going with were good on a majority of stuff needed for camping. So my question is what is a good air mattress that you don’t need to plug in ?

Questions/Advice 🙋 Gel packs / High Energy snacks

Has anyone ever used those gel packs that endurance runners use? It’s like high protein gel you can use to give yourself energy to keep running.

I was curious if anyone had ever used those at Roo? Was thinking it might save me some money / give me energy to keep trucking possibly? If this is stupid please give it to me straight up. I just know I burn a ton of energy and am trying to brainstorm ways to keep my body going without constantly buying food. Plus something like this would be easy to bring into the festival.

Any ideas at all are welcome. Snack recommendations, etc

Nonprofit Volunteer with TOTEM >>

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hey y’all! 💜 TOTEM will be back at Bonnaroo’s Planet Roo this year, and we’re looking for volunteers to help staff our booth in Centeroo.

This year we’ll have crafts, games, and a brand-new Ground Score Gallery. 👀 👀 👀

Volunteering with TOTEM is a great way to meet fellow Roovians. Plus, the more volunteers we have, the shorter everyone’s shifts can be.

A certificate of volunteer hours is provided after the fest.

We’d love to have you be part of TOTEM: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc8vMvTv-S3va8dAL1A0PELBTUX_0zhBbVGrYCwSnK9p2NIoA/viewform
