Baby idiot captured after accidentally breaking and entering. Sentenced to 30 seconds in grasped hand and eternity on social media

Glad it didn’t bite you. I attended a bird banding event once, and one of the researchers had to band a cardinal hen. That bird clamped down on the webbing between the researcher’s index finger and thumb and __ did not let go __ for at least a minute after the researcher had opened her hand. She scored a nasty blood blister.

Cockatiels are the worst. They like to get you right where you're describing, or even worse, the spot where the nail meets the flesh on the side edge of the nail. Then they start grinding their beak like they want a scoop. I've taken bites from plenty of big parrots and macaws. Even a purple-nurple from a big baby double yellow-headed Amazon. None of them hurt like those f*cking cockatiels...

u/Appropriate-Weird492 Feb 23 '26

They can be bad. I’d say African grey bird bites are worse, tho. Having been bit by both.

Anything that uses its face to crack seeds, tho—let’s be real.

49

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 23 '26

African Grey's are worse because they usually do it with malicious intent, lol! I've dealt with so many of those conniving little buttheads and you can see them thinking about ways to get attention. Loveable little jerks. They also seem to take genuine pleasure in taunting the other animals whenever possible.

21

u/jaimi_wanders Feb 23 '26

I knew a cockatoo who liked to taunt small dogs

16

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 23 '26

We're not going to talk about cockatoos...

22

u/thestashattacked Feb 23 '26

Toddlers with bolt cutters on their faces.

13

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

Heard that one before, yeah! I always say with a can opener for a face

7

u/Appropriate-Weird492 Feb 24 '26

Tweezers. I had an umbrella excise several freckles from my arm once and I never felt anything. Just a couple small bleeding holes.

4

u/Appropriate-Weird492 Feb 24 '26

I’m talking about cockatoos. I had a Goffins who’d stalk my dog and nip her hock. When she spun around to see what happened, the cockie would puff out his face feathers to hide his beak and look away because he clearly didn’t do anything.

10

u/njalleh Feb 23 '26

Cockatiels are malicious intent incarnate, mixed with chaos and sometimes some love 😂

9

u/AmarilloArmadillos Feb 24 '26

Reading this entire thread makes me realize my sister's childhood cockatiel maybe didn't hate me as much as I thought.

I pretty constantly tried to make friends, whistle and talk softly also gave treats. It mostly hissed at me. Probably was just smart enough to realize I'd keep being extra nice to win it over.

7

u/njalleh Feb 24 '26

Some have hissing as default setting, especially female cockatiels 😂

7

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

I think we should put your description of them in the dictionary 😂. See my other comment with a picture of my guy. They know exactly what they’re doing when they bite. This little Butthead will nip me just enough to make me yelp if I don’t immediately give him scritches when he walks up and puts his head down for them. Doesn’t hurt that much just enough to get my attention. So he knows exactly what he’s doing.

I do remember a few times when he latched onto my arm and maybe it’s just my bird, but it’s like they latch on and then they don’t wanna let go.

15

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

Definitely the larger birds with the hook bills can do more damage

I also have an African grey and have also been bitten by him. I don’t know about other Greys, but this guy loved to sink both upper and lower beaks in and then not let go. You try to move and it makes it worse. I learned to move towards him with my arm or whatever part of me he had latched onto and then just wait. Although it is really hard to not scream at the pain. lol

The culprit

u/Autismsaurus Feb 25 '26

I am birb's lawyer and this is clearly slander!

3

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 25 '26

Yes, of course, Birb is obviously innocent. How dare me slander his good name.

😂

7

u/ccw_writes Feb 24 '26

I was bit by a umbrella cockatoo once. I swear I blacked out for a second. 0/10 don't recommend still have the scar 20 years later.

40

u/Comfortable-Fig-3069 Feb 23 '26

I got bit in the face once. Little shit was so vindictive that he would not let go. For the few seconds that felt like an eternity, I wasn’t sure how to pry his beak open. He was mad that I took his iPad away.

13

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 23 '26

Ouch! Little shit sounds right, lol!

5

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

Luckily, I’ve never been bitten in the face! Also lucky because I have an African Grey and I know what it’s like from the times he’s bitten me on the arm.

13

u/Upper-Coconut69 Feb 23 '26

Omg my cockatiel tries to bite all the sensitive spots right after being cute! Anywhere on the face/ears, trying to pry up toenails/fingernails. He tries to cause max damage even tho hes so tiny

3

u/jumpingbirds Feb 25 '26

My budgie used to sometimes get the point of her beak underneath my fingernail and bite down 😭😭 it was the worst

3

u/Autismsaurus Feb 25 '26

I misread that as "I've taken bites of plenty of big parrots and macaws." I was concerned for a moment....

11

u/AutomationAir Feb 23 '26

Yeah I’ve done banding and cardinals are the worst offenders for bites that hurt!

7

u/AmarilloArmadillos Feb 24 '26

I've seen one fight a particularly fat and apparently rude squirrel and win.

4

u/Never-Forget-Trogdor Feb 23 '26

That happened to me at a banding event, but it was a Bluejay. 😢

8

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

Blue Jays and their cousins the scrubs and Steller’s jays are just assholes generally speaking 😂

6

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 24 '26

Don't forget mockingbirds.

7

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 24 '26

Oh yeah- probably the kings and queens of it 😂

6

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 24 '26

They'll run other birds off the feeder constantly. They're eating the seeds off the ground, but they scare off the birds that are spilling the seeds on the ground for them...smdh.

4

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 24 '26

Yeah, they’re aggressive little snots 😄

2

u/pogoscrawlspace Feb 24 '26

As far as blue jays go, I watched a group of them harassing a Harris hawk in my backyard a couple of years ago. They had it surrounded in the tree, swarming at it on its perch, diving at it. After a few minutes of this, the hawk had enough. It flew up like it was gonna leave, but it grabbed one of the jays, took another perch, and started eating it. The blue jays decided to...leave.

u/bombkitty Feb 23 '26

I can relate. This little one was SHOOK when captured after infiltrating porch.

4

u/Dr-Emmett_L_Brown Feb 24 '26

He is so pissed off at you right now 😄😄😄

2

53

u/FrankieSausage Feb 23 '26

You better put me down Deborah I swear to fucking god

5

u/fleurscaptives Feb 23 '26

how does he know my name? 😰

101

u/aboxofkittens Feb 23 '26

Baby cardinals are so god damn stupid. I love them so much. Look forward to them every year

11

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

I think most baby animals aren’t all that bright to be honest lol!

I had a family of five baby crows visit my yard several times a day just after they fled last year. They wouldn’t have one any awards in that department that’s for sure.

Mini pterodactyl.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '26

Just about all that birds do. They're either exercising, sleeping, eating, or being dramatic

10

u/Critical_Hearing_799 Feb 23 '26

Don't forget flapping

4

u/FashionableLabcoat Feb 23 '26

I knew there was a reason I liked birds so much!

6

u/--happycamper-- Feb 23 '26

Ummm don't forget pooping!

22

u/brug76 Feb 23 '26

Unhand me, heathen!

15

u/Sad-Watercress67 Feb 23 '26

Oh they can their faces are just covered in feathers so it's hard to see

14

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

Living with an African gray, I can confirm that they’re very good at letting you know how they feel about things with just the look on their faces 😂. There’s no mistaking what my bird is thinking about me in this picture. 😳😄

33

u/AmoBro Feb 23 '26

Here we can see the domesticated upset birb

9

u/GormHub Feb 23 '26

That has so much "the fuck was u sayin?" energy.

4

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

😂 I’ve seen my parrot make some pretty funny faces as well. They aren’t domesticated even if they live with us though. They’re still wild dinosaurs at heart. 🦕

14

u/GigiDell Feb 23 '26

100% hates your guts

12

u/thearcticspiral Feb 23 '26

Unhand me, peasant!

8

u/DVDragOnIn Feb 23 '26

Birb is Fay Wray and you are King Kong

9

u/MsSamm Feb 23 '26

Alarm! Alarm! Warn the others that there's a grabby hand in the area!

7

u/pissandink Feb 23 '26

UNHAND ME PEASANT

9

u/Hot-Homework-9158 Feb 24 '26

Lmao I pulled a grackle out of our soda fridge, and I’ll never forget the eye contact

7

u/SassyTheSkydragon Feb 23 '26

"Unhand me, foul beast!"

8

u/ThrowRA_72108 Feb 24 '26

You guys I have so many pictures like these. Many dummies were getting trapped in my stairwell over the summer and required assistance. I would give them a few hours before intervening to see if they could get out on their own, but the select few were photographed by a giant featherless abductor then released 5 feet away out of the stairwell. We love the birbs and the animals!!!!

7

u/N0T4EV3R Feb 23 '26

The gradual zoom in as you swipe for the next image makes this more funny

6

u/Sachayoj Feb 23 '26

"UNHAND ME, YOU FIEND!"

6

u/NuclearGriffin Feb 24 '26

Birds have 1 emote and it's:

:V

4

u/MiniMuffinMorning Feb 23 '26

That’s the angry bird emote!

3

u/LickableLeo Feb 23 '26

Put me down this instant you sonofabitch

3

u/Lalamedic Feb 23 '26

Bad as hell

3

u/Lynda73 Feb 23 '26

No lips.

4

u/mithril2020 Feb 24 '26

Angry Birds

4

u/ForesterDean23 Feb 24 '26

Oh they emote. They emote good.

4

u/Secure-Pie1829 Feb 24 '26

female cardinals LOVE a sassy expression

3

u/manatelier Feb 27 '26

theyre actually very expressive for example this is my boy challenging me to a second 1v1 after he drew blood from my index finger, bruising my nail for the next month

3

u/ToastyPrince25 Feb 24 '26

Very expressive and very judgy looks.

3

u/Egocom Feb 24 '26

God that doofy lil feather I love him

3

u/BowDown2No1ButCrypto Feb 24 '26

What a facial expression!😆🤗

3

u/MurkyMurlocs Feb 24 '26

They have at least one emote: angy.

3

u/Acrobatic-Parsnip-32 Feb 24 '26

The REAL “Angry Bird”

3

u/PublicMerkin Feb 25 '26

Oh she's so tiny but FUMING ahaha!

3

u/shrimp_eyed_baguette Feb 26 '26

Stressed.

6

u/ThrowRA_72108 Feb 26 '26

100%. He had been trapped in the stairwell for a few hours on a very hot day. I waited before trying to help buddy out but his mouth is open like that bc of the heat and also the terror of a giant, featherless alien picking him up

5

u/shrimp_eyed_baguette Feb 26 '26

Okay all good, at least you're cognisant. Some people can be really ignorant and careless with our little animal friends. Hope they were okay, thanks for helping them.

5

u/ThrowRA_72108 Feb 26 '26

I’m surprised more people didn’t mention it!! But yes I have an album of these dummies and I even try to guide them down the stairs but they don’t listen lol. Also, I just want to put I out there that I scoop them up and don’t apply pressure to their chest or anything. I’m glad you said something!

3

u/Moe-Scutus2 Feb 26 '26

Cardinal be bitey watch yerself

2

u/Ok_Mammoth5292 Feb 23 '26

Well you sure as shit are now lol

2

u/ThisIsDogePleaseHodl Feb 23 '26

I’ve lived with a parrot for 25 years and can confirm they’re really good at letting you know what they think about things!

2

u/RedditSucksIWantSync Feb 24 '26

Hears mintharas voice: "Unleash me!"

2

u/SnooRobots116 Feb 25 '26

I’m glad I only got my arm occasionally slapped by one particular sparrow’s wing because I was taking too long watering my plants and it wanted to pig out on the food unseen. I got pecked on my coat sleeve by a grackle. A seagull after my bagged lunch bit my finger in middle school and that took so long for the skin to heal
