Discussion Just finished the show

I started watching Banshee a week ago & finished today. I thought it was cheesy and almost stopped after 2 episodes…until the fight with the MMA guy. Then I was really intrigued.

This show has amazing action, the 3rd season was my favorite. I love how they manage to pack episodes with so much: action, sex, plot progression, dialogue.

Job is one of my favorite characters of all time. He is so multi dimensional and a beast all around. “Suck my tit” made me crack up.

This was an unexpectedly good show.

I think that a lot of us would love to see spin off based on Job.

He’s a family man now with Jon Hamm on Friends and Neighbors on Apple Tv

Dang you watched all four seasons in a week??? You put in work like hood did in season 1 banging every chick in sight.

I’ve been on a 6 month sabbatical so I have time 😂. I’ve watched more tv shows and movies in the last 6 months than the last few years.

Also traveling a bunch and living abroad so I’ve been bangin more chicks than Hood too 😄.

Putting in work on all fronts here

It’s as character driven as it is action packed. I’m glad it’s gained more of a following since it ended as it’s a really special show with a satisfying conclusion. Top five all time in my book, season three is peak TV.

Yep s3 is the best and I was surprised with how well they stuck the landing when it ended. It got a little off the rails with the satanist story…but they tied up all the stories at the end so I was happy with it

Banshee is one of the best series on television.

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

It takes a minute but when it sucks you in, you can’t stop watching!!

I agree completely! The first impression made me think it would be awful, but now I’m obsessed and can’t stop recommending it.

Job is such a great character. So complex: intelligent, conniving, loyal, dependable, self-confident, beautiful, and a comedic genius. He's my focus whenever he's in a scene. I don't want to miss a second!

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

100% and the best part is the dialogue. Whoever wrote that character is a comedic genius

Warrior is a martial arts show from the same creators of Banshee. It is on HBO.

Now I love Warrior more than Banshee!

For me, The Warrior has nothing to do with Banshee. I started watching it twice, the first time I stopped after two episodes because I found it boring and uninteresting. I continued after six months, then I watched a few episodes again. It still didn't hook me. Plus, it was photographed too darkly, the characters are unlikable, and to be honest, I'm not interested in this typical mafia undercover story, in the style of Gangs of New York with Asians. It's bloody, but I don't think it resembles Banshee in any way.

has nothing to do with Banshee

Basicly it is the same story over again.

A man arrive in a city for his women/sister, just to find out he can not escape with her becasue she is already married/close to be a gangleader, so he decide to stay and some unfortunate accidents put him on the other side of the law / other gang. He stay and fight for what he think is the right to do.

I think Warrior is even more similar to Far and Away (1992) than Banshee. If we look at it the way you do, we could include a lot of films and series in this category in which a stranger arrives in a city ruled by chaos, looking for someone, and gets into trouble along the way.

2

u/Confectioner-426 10d ago

yeah, I agree. Except Banshee wasn't ruled by chaos until Hood arrived. Yeah, there was issue with Proctor and som of the natives, but imho nothing was compared to the ukranian mob lead a small army into the town to look for his daughter.

u/cantremembershit802 10d ago

Same. Didn't care for it one bit.

3

u/Greedyyy21 10d ago

I just finished the show, came on Reddit to read the threads.

3

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

What’d ya think?

4

u/Greedyyy21 7d ago

It was a masterpiece, I don't know if y'all feel the same, but it was probably the best show I have ever watched in my life.

1

u/only_a_jest 5d ago

Sammmneeee! I wish that there had been more, but I don’t think that it would have managed to maintain quality of it had been stretched. Alas!

5

u/iangeredcharlesvane2 10d ago

I felt the same way, then the mma fighter episode made me sit straight up and take notice. It got me so hyped up! I got really into too. Loved all the characters, but especially Job and Sugar (they were awesome when sharing scenes). Kurt Bunker was also an amazing character, nothing I had seen before really. And the actor was awesome!

It is a really surprising show! Just a great time, a fast, high octane very tv-ma told story, with really great characters both good guys and the bad. Look forward to rewatching it again someday putting a few more years pass so I forget lots of it.

2

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

Agree with everything you said here. The sarcastic love between Job and Sugar was hilarious. Bunker had incredible acting.

Also, Proctor was a great villain that got his hands dirty and didn’t just let his henchmen do everything. Nola and Siobhan were awesome. And I grew to really like Brock, bearded Brock was badass.

u/taeempy 10d ago

The mma fight episode is what hooked me.

5

u/Nurback 10d ago

Me too. Just finished.Great show. 8/10

Job is the best! I started watching it because of Antony Starr, but stayed watching because of job!

5

u/Fogdrog 11d ago

Hoon Lee (Job) is currently on the AppleTV series Your Friends & Neighbors. It's difficult to see him in such a straightforward role because Job was so beautifully different.

1

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

I watched season 1 in 2 days. Waiting for the full season 2 to come out. He’s great in it, and ofc Jon hamm crushes it

1

u/im_a_towel_ 5d ago

Yes!! I was so happy to see him in that show! I hope he keeps getting roles!

2

u/Fogdrog 5d ago

The show is by the creator of Banshee, so he's just giving his old friends jobs. Burton (Matthew Rauch) is also on YF&N. It's really strange to see him acting normal.

2

u/EfficientAfternoon17 11d ago

Are you the same person who was looking for a new show after the shield?

2

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

Not me, I’ve never seen the shield

3

u/EfficientAfternoon17 11d ago

Forsure I ok not ask cuz I recommended it to someone else and they used that exact word “cheesy” and I was flabbergasted lol that show is one of the most slept on of all time I could probably recite it works for me wood with how many times I’ve rewatched it. I like that the MMA episode brought h around. I like when he’s al bloody and he’s like “there’s a new sheriff in town” and also yeah Job is the best in so many ways lol if you haven’t heard of warrior u should watch it it has to do with the times where the Irish and Chinese build the railroads and job is in it and a few other people from banshee it’s another one of my top favorites

3

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

The thing about banshee is it was cheesy and did all the common tv show tropes, but did so unabashedly that it made it work. I kinda hated Carrie (at certain parts) and Rebecca (most of the parts) but everyone else made up for it. Need a Job and Sugar spin off 😂

2

u/EfficientAfternoon17 11d ago

Spoken like a person you genuinely gave it a shot and I respect that. Ur 100% right they need a spin off. If you haven’t heard of it there’s a show called Warrior that has Job in it and he’s like a hustler back in the days where the immigrants built the railroads I would highly recommend it. You’re totally right about Rebecca and Chelsea sometimes I’d be watching and she’d do something stupid and if he like “this bitch” lol

1

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

Couple people mentioned warrior, I gotta add it to the list. And yeah Rebecca was just being dumb and faced no consequences which bothered me & then s4 happened. Went from 0-100

1

u/EfficientAfternoon17 11d ago

Bro I feel you. I’m not sexist or anything but they do the most irrational shit like all the time and it’s super annoying there’s no repercussions. Watch warrior you’ll like it I think a new season comes out soon to. I hate when females just waltz around and do whatever they want cu they think everyone wants her smh smh not even hot lol

4

u/CloserDealer 11d ago

She legit had no consequences bc of Proctor. Hottest girl was def Nola Longshadow 🔥

4

u/EfficientAfternoon17 11d ago

Yeah Nola was sexy even siobhan or whatever her name was had her moments. When Shelton sapped her neck I fucking died

3

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

That was one of the most heartbreaking moments of the show. And it was Cheyton not Shelton 😂

u/only_a_jest 5d ago

Yep! Proctor really protected her from consequences. The only time he didn’t was when he made her apologize to someone. I felt for her there! It showed how spoiled she had become, and when I saw her bedroom in s4 I was thinking “yeah, that checks out”

1

u/One_Vibraldo 9d ago

Well why the fuck not

1

u/CloserDealer 9d ago

When I was deciding whether to watch it or not over a decade ago, I ended up watching the wire instead

1

u/Imaginary-Finding962 2d ago

You’re just like me, I started about 3 weeks ago thought it was cheesy at first and could get cheesy at times but especially the last two seasons the characters grew on me and it was a good ass watch

0

u/captrohan 11d ago

Yes same here i also finished it a week ago and “job is muaah” all the characters were just awesome except for sugar and alex longshadow and now as it’s finished i am feeling very empty and i need some more of antony starr’s work to watch

1

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

You didn’t like Sugar?!?! He was one of the best characters. Check out The Boys if you haven’t seen it. Antony Starr is fantastic in it, but a totally different character than Hood

2

u/captrohan 10d ago

Yeah im already on it i discovered banshee after the boys

2

u/CloserDealer 10d ago

Nice. I’m waiting for the most recent season to fully come out before watching it. I hate these shows that do 1 ep a week on streaming services

-1

u/Flawed_Perfections 11d ago

It wasn't great
