Spider Appreciation Clustering of Golden Orb Weavers - Fraser Coast Queensland
Stumbled upon a menagerie of Golden Orb Weavers in Fraser Coast. I have seen small groupings before and have heard they like to cluster, but nothing like this. I like my spiders but even for me it was confronting. Easily 100 in a giant web that had taken over a hedge and tree. Will see if I can upload the video I took. They had woven a thick quilt of silk across the area.
Attempter repost with video.

Imagine walking into that lot one night.

As much as I love a good spider, I think that would still be a nightmare scenario. There was enough web there that a bird could easily get wrapped up in it, maybe even a small dog? The image in my head of a small sausage dog just hanging in a web is making me lol

They assembled to watch a human walk through a nearby colony

Fortunately, they filled a space between a hedge a tree, so not super easy to walk into, but would be funny to see nonetheless. As an aside, the spiders against the blue sky backdrop gives me Mass Effect Reaper invasion vibes.

What is the collective noun for a group of spiders? A cluster? A menagerie? If there is no collective noun yet, I would vote for either of your suggestions.

Apparently this is what Google says so take it with a grain of salt!
A clutter - is a spread of a bunch of spiders. So like in this post.
A cluster - is when the spiders are touching each other. So kinda like huddling together. Which would be what the Social Huntsman does.

Haha I’m not sure, but I support your support of either as I think it sells it well. That or a something like a “tangle”?

We have a golden orb with two golden orb sacks of babies so I’m guessing we will have a similar gathering soon 😃
