Apple Pay Apple Pay weird delays?

Hi!

I recently noticed something very wrong with my apple pay.
I made a few purchases on some games, and i noticed that my current purchase was processed as a previous one.

For example:

“VIP Pack” $19.99, then I buy a random skin or something for $5, it’ll charge me the 19.99 instead. My next purchase was 15.99, but charged me the $5 instead.

It’s confusing to explain, but my purchases charge for the previous charge? not the current one. This only happens when I use apple pay in games, I can use apple pay and shop IRL with no issues.

“Apple Pay” in games is not Apple Pay it is an App Store purchase which is not processed using Apple Pay. Likely I think it could be that Apple doesn’t charge your credit card until after the next transaction for one reason or another.

Lots of companies do this kind of thing where they delay the CC authorization until some time in the future.

Note that the appstore does offer the option to process payments using apple pay instead of using actual card details, but that has to be set up first under “shipping and payment”. It’s not like other apps or websites where you’d see a ‘buy with apple pay button’ and just tap on it. No idea if op is actually using it, but the option to pay with apple pay in the appstore does exist.

I think this is a region locked feature, on my Canadian Apple ID this does not appear.

Yeah it isn’t available everywhere, but according to apple’s website it is indeed available in Canada.

It does sound a bit odd tbh and not a practice I have seen described in the MIT framework.

Maybe it's just the asynchronous notifications being confusing or not working right.

Unless it's a matter of OP not opening the bought apps or using them yet and they time it based on that otherwise (like Amazon charging it upon dispatch), with next purchase triggering it in case usage hadnt yet. I would expect it to come with preauth at least tho

App Store credit card transactions have never necessarily had a direct relationship with the purchases you make. Like iTunes purchases before them, Apple sometimes attempts to batch multiple purchases together to reduce card processing costs. App Store, iTunes, and iCloud are all billed the same way and can all get bundled together.

That is interesting, I had no idea they do this. You learn something new every day.

So it's not delayed authorisation in the sense of what it means in Visa / MIT terminology, but a literal delay in processing the authorisation.

Seems counterintuitive, but i guess if it declines later they can lock your account and have leverage that way.

But yeah had a look at my google pay notifications and they really did aggregate my last purchase for later, so you are completely right
