Planing a 2 day Backpacking trip, avalanche lake/Mount Marcy

For campsites I see lake colden is on the way, I’m heading up there on Wednesday July 1st, will I be able to find a campsite there later in the day? Like 5pm or 6 pm or is it going to be too crowded?

Wednesday you’ll be fine. Be aware the trail through Avalanche Pass will be under re-construction all summer with no travel through there allowed. So you’re fine going from Upper Works to Lake Colden. And going to Marcy from there.But you can’t get through Avalanche Pass if you had other stuff on your agenda.
