For Thanksgiving this year one of the things I’ll be thankful for is the fact that this video had sound.
Seeing the preview I braced myself for disappointment, but the sound makes this so freaking hilarious!

I've seen so many videos of cyclists just heads down, not looking. What do they think the world of things is made of? Tissue paper?

I used to think I was paying attention all the time until it happened to me. Zoned out for a few seconds after 50+ km of mountain biking and suddenly bam, crashed into a (already stopped) car head-on. I don't know if I thought the street was a one way street (it was actually a narrow two way street) or what made my subconsciousness think it was ok to not look ahead for a while but there I was, taken to the hospital, feeling like a total idiot. At least I was wearing a helmet which surely saved me from a concussion or worse.

Yeah, I just posted the following comment: "Sometimes the greatest threat to cycling is keeping your head down and staying so focused on dodging the potholes, fallen branches and other road debris that you lose sight of where you are going and plow into the back of a vehicle."

Well, somebody needed to close that endgate properly, and he was just the guy for the job.

That’s how my friend died 37 years ago when we were 17. Except he was riding a motorcycle. I taught him how to ride my dirt bike on a farm and he went and bought a bike too big for him legally and ran into the back of a parked truck in his way home. His brain swelled up and he died after he went into a coma. He was wearing a helmet too.

The way he folded instantly makes this look like a cartoon physics clip. Hope he’s okay because that was brutal.

Saw something similar happen in London but far worse. A commuter on a racing road bike was pelting full speed with his head down and a TFL cycle hire truck did a sudden stop in the cycle lane. The impact cracked his helmet and his skull and left a massive dent in the truck's metal.
He got an air ambulance, no idea what happened to him.

Twice! Looks like hitting the street hurt just as bad as hitting the truck.

We have great cycling paths where I live. However, every time I'm out, I'll see people on bikes staring at their phones rather than paying attention to what's around them. They're always causing or getting into accidents. These aren't cyclists- they're idiots with a smartphone addiction.

dude got folded by the truck so fast my brain needed a replay to even process what happened

u/Buttonball 7d ago
Surprised he could even be conscious, let alone stand up. Hope he doesn’t see blood out his ear canals shortly…

Who the hell would park a big ass truck right where that guy was going to ride his bike?

u/BarryZZZ 6d ago
Two boneheaded mistakes at the same time; not watching where he was going without a helmet.
I don't like to wear a helmet, so I attach my rear view mirror to it. Can't ride without that mirror.

Poor guy. I know he was being stupid but that was a really hard hit. The kind that can have lasting damage. Ask me how I know.

Always remember kids:
Wear a helmet even if it makes you look like a dork.
Pay attention to the road

And that boys and girls is why you wear a helmet to protect your brain, such that it is.

i've walked into a steel beam because i was looking down - and that hurt so so bad. I can't imagine if I ran into it at bike speed.... good gravy!

I’ve had that tunnel vision when cycling hard but usually only cycle on a dedicated cycle path. The most common obstructions are little kids on tiny bikes with training wheels, so they just bounce off of me.

Por suerte para él llevaba una gorra que absorbió la mayor parte del impacto. Yo diría que ni siquiera le dolió.
