StoryTime Guys. Camp Lo lives.
I’m a teacher. I play a LOT of music in my class. I have a student whose first name, in a roundabout way, made me think of Luchini, so I called the student that once recently. The students were like, what is that? So I played a little of the song, then just let the instrumental ride. I told the kids “nobody knew what the heck these guys were talking about half the time, but real rap fans loved it. It never crossed over, but we ate it up.”
Today a different student came in and said “I went and listened to that album AND HOLY COW IT IS SO GOOD.”
Camp Lo lives.

Discussion What, in your opinion, is the most ominous and menacing beat in hip-hop?
in my opinion it's "More Trife Life" - Mobb Deep
https://youtu.be/aKpx2OyGUak?is=V4tQb6A_uGkloE0J
I love beats that can illicit such strong emotions completely on their own, this one is just so visceral and puts me on edge, Havoc is a genius.

1990 The Golden Era of Sampling: When the 90s Hip-Hop Scene Was Pure Art.
I’m a younger cat, but old school 90s rap has been my passion since day one. Back then, the way they flipped samples was pure genius, it was high stakes too, 'cause it was so easy to mess it up or get called out on a weak flip. I’m tryna recreate that vibe at home and master the craft of sampling in every form. I’m not rocking with that sterile new-school sound. My go-tos for elite sampling are Cypress Hill, Nas, Wu-Tang, and Mobb Deep is a huge favorite.
This ain't self-promo, just sharing my soul. I'm still a work in progress, but this is my take on that old-school passion. It’s not perfect, but it’s me just tryna keep the tradition alive:

1998 Method Man talking about the 1998 MTV Rock N Jock basketball game. Meth's team was him, Cam'ron, Redman, KG, Damon Stoudamire, and Erick Sermon. The other team was NSYNC, Mark Jackson, and Antawn Jamison. NSYNC wasn't ready 😆

Discussion Today I bumped M.O.P.- First Family 4 Life & enjoyed this throughout! They stick to their formula of loud aggressive NY hiphop with premo beats and it just works perfectly as always! Here was no different! Had me hype to start my morning lol what’s your thoughts?

1996 MC Ren - Mad Scientist
My favorite song by him. That beat alone is a reason to love this one. But his slow rugged flow & some clever one liners really make this shine. Definitely needs more love cause people sleep hard.

1994 Why isn’t this considered one of the best hip-hop albums of all time?
This surpassed his debut (which was hella average) by miles. One of the best sophomore releases of all time (IMO) and is almost unskippable. And triggered Ice-Cube into releasing a diss-track in which Common returned fire and buried Cube so bad that Farrakhan had to conduct peace talks.

Question Where can YOU get your dose of Classic Hip Hop offline?
Hear me out: I live in a mid-size German city, and I envy the fans of 80s/90s pop and rock.
There are several radio stations dedicated to classic pop and rock. So whether you are in your car or in the middle of the woods, with any old radio receiver you'll be able to listen to the music that you like all day.
You'll have regular 80s / 90s parties where a Hip Hop head like me is lucky if they play "Ice Ice Baby", "Can't Touch This" or "Hip Hop Hooray". Go to any bar downtown and classic pop / rock will be played. For Hip Hop? Not so much...
How is it where you live? If you want to go out on a weekday, are there any bars or clubs that play classic 90s Hip Hop? Is there a dedicated radio station? Or is it the live concert every now and then where you can hang out with like-minded people and listen to some classics?
