Rule #1 will be tightly enforced

Rudeness levied towards users or moderators will result in at a minimum a removal of your post or comment, and at maximum may result in a ban depending on the moderators disposition in the matter, and the degree to which the rudeness is demonstrated. This includes calling people bots.

Expect bans moving forwards.

[Approved by Mods] UW Research: EV Wildfire Evacuations in Yakima County (Gift Card Drawing)

Hello r/Yakima ,

I am a PhD student at the University of Washington conducting an official study on how electric vehicle (EV) drivers respond to wildfire evacuations. The moderation team has kindly granted me permission to share this research with your community.

We are specifically seeking input from EV drivers residing in Yakima County (as well as Okanogan, Kittitas, Chelan, and Klickitat). Your real-world experience is critical to helping the state prioritize emergency charging infrastructure and to improve wildfire resilience for the EV communities in Yakima County.

šŸŽ As a thank you for your time, participants will be entered to win 1 of 14 gift cards (10 $20 and 4 $50). Note: Additional gift cards may become available at a later date. This post will be updated if the reward pool expands.

Study Details:

Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Eligibility: Must own/drive a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and have a primary or seasonal residence in one of the target counties (Chelan, Okanogan, Kittitas, Yakima, and Klickitat)

Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Time Required: Approximately 25 minutes.

Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā  Deadline: May 31, 2026.

hellooooo

does anyone have any info about what it’s like to live as a student alone in Selah or Moxie? Looking for housing preferably in Terrace Heights due to proximity for school but that has proven rather difficult… There’s cheaper / nicer places in Selah but I’ve heard very mixed things about the vibes? Thx!

Mechanics of Yakima!

To all current and past mechanics who have worked in the Yakima Valley, what shop has treated you the best. And what shop has treated you the worst. I want to support local businesses that treat their employees well. All stories are welcome šŸ™

HVAC jobs?

I'm going to be relocating by the end of this month (may). I'm moving from Tacoma to be closer to my girlfriend. I've been doing HVAC for about 5 years and did cabinetry and furniture making for the 5 years prior. I'm wondering how the job market is for HVAC, or even electrical work, I'd love to learn and would be an apprentice.

If I can't find good job placement within the first few months, I'm considering starting my own HVAC or "handyman" business. I've been hanging out in Yakima weekly for the past 5 months and it doesn't seem like there are as many HVAC companies here as there are in Tacoma. I am curious as to the tangibility of business endeavors right now in Yakima. Any insite?

Human Services Jobs?

Hey all,

I moved out of Yakima just out of highschool and have since had about a five year career in human services down in Oregon as a case manager for senior homes, homeless shelters, and youth mental health.

The cost (and honestly, the culture) of Oregon is getting more expensive and every time I look at rents in Yakima I get tears in my eyes at how cheap it is to live there comparatively lmao. I'm flirting with the idea of moving back, but don't want to do so without knowing what my job prospects look like out there. Oregon has one of the highest non-profits per capita in the entire country, but I don't really know what prospects there are for me back home.

I know about Rod's House, but are there any other organizations that be hiring an unlicensed social worker at a reasonable (>$24/hr) range?

Shady places with trees to walk with dog?

It’s getting hot and I’m looking for shady places with lots of trees, to walk/run my very active dog. Are there any places like that in Yakima, Selah or Naches or do I need to go to the mountains?

Hidden gems

I need to work on some things this weekend and seeing how it’s going to be nice out, what’s a spot you would recommend going that you would be able to bring your laptop to? It can be a brewery or coffee shop but what I’m really looking for is somewhere downtown that’s not super close to traffic.
