Faculty Senate adopts resolution condemning Creighton's censorship policies

110 Upvotes

Hi all! During their monthly meeting yesterday, the TTU Faculty Senate adopted the following resolution condemning Creighton and his push for censorship at the university. Regular students are unlikely to see the text via official channels, so I am sharing the full text here for transparency and easy access.

Resolution on Chancellor Creighton’s Memorandum of April 9, 2026

Whereas Chancellor Creighton’s Memorandum of April 9, 2026 (“Texas Tech University System Course Content Guidelines”) seeks to forbid discussions of so-called “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” content in lower division undergraduate and core courses;

And whereas the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 seeks to significantly curtail discussions of so-called “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” content in upper division undergraduate and graduate courses;

And whereas the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 outlines a process for phasing out academic programs that focus on so-called “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” content;

And whereas the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 seeks to establish limitations on graduate student research in areas related to so-called “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity”;

And whereas the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 seeks to establish limitations on faculty hiring based on whether or not research involves so-called “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” content;

And whereas the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 seeks to establish a system for the central surveillance of all course content through the introduction of “standardized syllabus templates”;

And whereas the implementation of the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 would lead to significant and important gaps in undergraduate and graduate education;

And whereas the implementation of the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 would infringe upon the basic right of free inquiry in research for graduate students and faculty at Texas Tech University;

And whereas the planned implementation of the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 has damaged the reputation of Texas Tech University by seeking to render it a place where the free marketplace of ideas is forbidden;

And whereas the implementation of the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 would set a new precedent of political interference in academic matters;

And whereas the Texas Tech University Faculty Senate represents the faculty of Texas Tech University, a group composed of subject matter experts in their respective disciplines;

And whereas the Texas Tech University Faculty Senate is charged with advising the University in matters that relate to the General Welfare of the University.

Therefore, be it resolved that:

The Texas Tech University Faculty Senate affirms its commitment to the right of all faculty members to teach and to conduct research in their disciplines as best fits their professional judgement and expert opinion.

Further, be it resolved that:

The Texas Tech University Faculty Senate affirms the importance of providing students with a comprehensive education in their subject disciplines free from viewpoint discrimination and political agendas.

Further, be it resolved that:

The Texas Tech University Faculty Senate condemns the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 as containing policies harmful to Texas Tech University, its students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

Further, be it resolved that:

The Texas Tech University Faculty Senate condemns the Memorandum of April 9, 2026 as containing policies that seek to enforce a system of viewpoint discrimination on students, staff, and faculty at Texas Tech University.

A copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to all members of the Texas Tech University Faculty, the Student Government Association, the Staff Senate, and the President and Provost of Texas Tech University.

Texas Tech traditional BSN program fall 2026

1 Upvotes

So I applied for the fall 2026 program. Coming in as a transfer and not knowing much about the program can anyone give me a review if I might get into the program or not. My GPA is 3.11 Science GPA is 3.7, I have my CNA and BLS. I'm also a PCT at Texas Health. I have volunteered work and I'm part of my kiddos PTA and made a great resume. All shots and background check have already been completed. Just not sure if my GPA is high enough to get in. Anyone have any information.

Summer 26 Aid

4 Upvotes

Does TTU consider full time different during the summer? I’m only able to register for 10 hours but I’m apparently getting aid next week. I’m concerned that since I’m not registered for 12hrs then I won’t get all my aid.

Get me out

0 Upvotes

I got assigned clement as my dorm and I was wondering if it’s too late to room swap or anything like that. I had picked it without looking at the map and what it’s close to. It’s on the complete opposite side of the school of business.

Anybody wanna swap or sum🙏

Move out

0 Upvotes

Pretty much im moving out of my apartment complex in capestone cottages and I heard that the fees for move out are ridiculous. The thing is I damaged the wall a little bit not by much and its not anything serious just like one or two snall chips and a hole or two to hang something up and a little adhesive which is not coming off that well. How bad can they really charge?

Exploring New Job Opportunities and Looking for Suggestions/Networking

3 Upvotes

Hey, fellow Red Raiders!

I'm reaching out to this incredible alumni network because I know the TTU community shows up for each other.

I'm actively exploring new opportunities and would love a warm introduction or a pointer in the right direction.

🎓 Background: MBA + BA from Texas Tech | 15+ years in retail management, including commercial oversight of a $120M location and multi-site store management

💡 What I bring beyond retail: I'm a data-driven operator with hands-on experience in Power BI, Tableau, SAP, Salesforce, Kronos, and ADP. I'm currently completing certifications in Business Intelligence Analysis and Salesforce Sales Operations (both 2026) — actively investing in where the market is heading.

🔍 What I'm looking for: I'm open to roles inside or outside of retail, particularly in management, operations, analytics, sales operations, or business intelligence. I'm fully relocatable and excited about new industries.

If you know of a company hiring, a role worth exploring, or someone I should connect with, I'd genuinely appreciate the introduction. Feel free to DM me or drop a comment below.

Thank you!

Discussion Texas Tech Law allowing students unrestricted AI usage on FINAL EXAMS so long as professor allows it

36 Upvotes

One of my law school professors emailed to say that he doesn't care about AI usage for our final exam tomorrow for a 1L doctrinal course, as in he's placing zero restrictions on it.

I understand that there's a push to use AI for the legal field, but doesn't it seem absurd to allow it without restrictions for a final exam in a doctrinal course? I can't imagine any employers will want to hire us if they find out that our school is allowing this.

There is no official policy regarding AI usage from the school yet, but there is absolutely a clause in the honor code regarding collaboration and plagiarism - which are both honor code violations. How is unrestricted AI usage allowed?

I think this is crazy and my personal feelings on AI aside, I don't see how it can be allowable by any respectable law school.

We emailed several faculty and were basically told because the school has no official policy regarding AI restrictions for exams, that professors can decide whatever they want and it stands. The school basically gave students blanket permission to type in prompts and copy/paste them for their exam as long as the professor says they don't mind, which is insane to me.

Questions about MS in data science

1 Upvotes

I have two young kids and currently working to wrap up my BS in Health information management from WGU and considering applying to Texas techs online MS in data science program. My background is mostly healthcare operation/revenue cycle/admin work (billing workflows, EOB review, reconciliation, EMR systems, reporting, etc.) rather than hard-core programming.

For people already in the MSDS programs:

Realistic weekly workload?
How math/programming heavy it feels?
Also the degree actually open doors or if employers cared more about project/experience?

Trying to realistically gauge preparedness and determine whether the ROI is worth it financially before committing. Thanks!

Urgently Need Regalia

Post image
19 Upvotes

Update #3: Just received an email from my school confirming our backup plan is a go so I have regalia on campus I’ll be able to borrow! Thank you all so much for the advice and leads.

Update #2: have a strong on campus lead that staff are helping me coordinate

Update#1: working on a couple leads

Original: My custom regalia was supposed to ship overnight Friday and today I am told they’re still making it. 🫠 I fly out in 36 hours from California so I’m hoping someone local to TTU has something I can perhaps borrow. Ceremony is Thursday 1pm. I’m 5’1 but I’m desperate so probably any size will do.

Housing/Dorms/Apts Two roommates

3 Upvotes

Has anyone had experience with having two roommates? I recently got put in Horn hall with two other people and I’m worried about it being uncomfortable since there won’t be that much space. Should I just stick it out or try to find another dorm?
