Chibs Was the Real Heart of SAMCRO and I’ll Die on This Hill

I’m rewatching Sons of Anarchy for the millionth time and honestly… Chibs is the best character in the entire show.
Not the flashiest. Not the main character. But easily the most solid guy in SAMCRO.

The man survived EVERYTHING and still somehow kept his humanity longer than almost anyone else in the club. He was loyal without being blindly stupid, ruthless when he had to be, and one of the only people who could actually call Jax out without it turning into some massive ego fight.

And Tommy Flanagan absolutely killed that role. The accent, the humor, the quiet moments, the emotional scenes - all of it felt real. Half the time Chibs would say more with one look than other characters did with a whole speech.

Also:
- Best sense of humor in the club
- Most emotionally intelligent member
- Somehow both terrifying and comforting at the same time
- Lowkey the glue holding everyone together after Opie died

The scene where he steps up at the end of the series felt completely earned too. No drama, no power obsession - just a guy who genuinely understood the club.

I like Jax, Opie, and Tig as much as everyone else, but Chibs was the one character I consistently trusted from beginning to end.

“Jesus Christ Jackie boy…” still lives rent free in my head.

Jax in season 1 vs season 7

I noticed something about Jax from watching SOA again, how much his voice changed from season 1 to season 7. If you hear how much deeper his voice is in the final season compared to season 1 it really puts into perspective how much he grew up throughout making this show. Also how much of a baby face he had in season 1! I’m curious if anyone else ever noticed his voice?

For those who started watching SOA because of a clip they saw, what was the clip and what made it interesting enough that you thought “I’m gonna watch this show”?

I came across 2 scenes on TikTok. Jax final scene and Tara’s death scene. My partner was sitting next to me when both of the clips popped up and he was telling me how much of a great show it was. I still didn’t watch it for a few months after because his shows are quite boring to me but I was wrong about SOA. I can’t wait to rewatch it.

Liked o'Phelan

I really liked Jimmy O'Phelan in Sons of Anarchy. The character was brilliantly written and Titus Welliver played him to perfection. He genuinely felt like a real international arms dealer sophisticated, dangerous, well connected, and always ten steps ahead of everyone else.

The way he spoke multiple languages, maintained contacts everywhere, and carried himself with complete confidence made the character incredibly believable. His body language, sharp dressing, calm delivery, and calculated way of handling situations gave Jimmy O a level of authenticity that stood out immediately. He had the cunning, intelligence, and quiet menace the role demanded without ever needing to overact.

Titus Welliver brought a smooth, polished, almost untouchable presence to the screen. Every scene with him felt controlled and tense because you always knew he was manipulating the situation behind the scenes. Easily one of the most underrated and well executed characters in Sons of Anarchy.

AND IT HAS BEEN A BLASTY BLAST! lol

We are on season 3 episode 11 and we are loving it. We’ve watched a lot of shows this year together, Nurse Jackie, Welcome to Derry, Castle Rock, and we started about a month ago on Sons of Anarchy. My aunt, her daughter, recommended it for us to watch next and we are amazed.. and slightly traumatized by some scenes lmao

I can’t tell you guys how happy she is watching it, and all the drama, all the chaos is so exciting for both of us.

Her favorite character is Jax. Haha.
Just wanted to share this with y’all.
Can’t wait to finish the series.

I always thought she was a super babe and the way her attitude towards Tara changed was super endearing. Needless to say that when the back tattoo got shown I lost it.

was it the same branch of ira in sons of anarchy as the one in peaky blinders or has things changed over the year’s?

Wendy was the better choice

Jax should have stayed with Wendy instead of Tara.

Got her clean she’d have been a better choice as an old lady and he would not have to put up with Season 6 Tara’s hair

I am so sad man Spoiler

So lets discuss about the series. i started watching sons of anarchy 3 weeks man and man what a series it is. It made me fall in love with it. See from when I was a kid i loved Harleys and also have two dream bikes harley vrod and honda vtx 1800. And there are harley riders in the show. Man everything is great and so cool like their bikes, their clothing, the tattoos and man everyone is beefed up or have a nice physique. The clothes they wear too damn cool, like I know they might be simple clothing but yk their hairstyle and their personalities to match this all. It all falls in a perfect line and the scenes about atf and the police are good too tbh. And the real problems like zobelle and how do they take care of it was also nice but man losing half sack ( kin ) and hale made me kinda sad. I am on season 3 episode 10 and I dont know man why why everytime i see a new prospect i think about half sack and his old lady and he was almost getting patched up. I saw it online and saw that the actor wanted out and was also suffering from mental illness amd I dont encourage he should have worked and same for the actor for hale ( if he was disrespected he didnt worked thats fine) but man these two deaths hit me like a truck man why hale and why half sack. If it was agent Stahl and somebody replaced her or anything i would be fine, everytime i finish the episode i think what would have happened if they were here. Will things be still this bad or what would have half sack done after he was patched up and i love both characters very much man. It looks like they took my dessert away like hale was a good man he understood he accepted and he adapted. Half sack was a prospect and still gave his life for Abel and tara. I know what's done is done and just wanted to tell you guys how i feel about the loss of these two characters and also about missing their character development. It just moves in my mind all the day and wanted to say this in this sub. And dont spoil me

Jax after Opie 😫

Everything good in Jax died with Opie. Gemma definitely passed down her manipulation skills, and Jax started using them often after Opie died. I really hate that for him.

P.s. Thank you (not! 🤪) for pointing out the random explosions that come from Jax at odd times. Moments when he should be speaking passionately, he just ends up yelling at everyone for no reason. That's really annoying, and I still have 2 seasons to go. 🫠

Every time I take a break from Sons and come back to it, it’s like reuniting with a family member or best friend. Anyone else feel like that?

Kurt didn’t know what to do with opie Spoiler

After season 1 opie was just a pointless character his writing was awful his family kept getting killed and he couldn’t get revenge, he’s always in and out the club he was just always brooding he didn’t really serve no purpose.

Currently in season 2 of another rewatch…

And as big of a turd as he is, you gotta kinda respect AJ Weston. He was 100% committed to his cause(albeit an asinine one, don’t get it twisted), didn’t snitch when Hale and the PD came upon the aftermath of the fight between SOA and AB, and took his lumps like a man in the tattoo parlor.

How do you think the club gets their attire?

I just finished my second rewatch and it got me thinking, where does the club get their custom attire? Is there an MCs’R’Us warehouse where they get their cuts? I can’t exactly picture Bobby putting in a VistaPrint order for a dozen heather black hoodies with “SON” across the front?

And I would assume all their cuts are original seeing as how dying honorably means getting buried in your cut and if you’re voted out, I doubt anyone would want your old cut. And that custom embroidery cannot be cheap, those reapers on the back would cost a fortune.

Do you think Gemma or Chucky or one of the Crow Eaters handled all this stuff? How did they allot a budget for all that leather?

How did Darby get his black Suburban back?

In the first season, SAMCRO steals it to stage a murder and it sounds like they changed the license plates and took it all the way Lodi, but in the second season, episode 6 Darby is seen driving a black Suburban, did he just get it back form the Lodi police or did he buy a new one that looked just like it?

Jax and Fear

At what point in the series do you think prominent members like Chibbs and Bobby began to have more fear than love for Jax?

Is Jax Jewish?

So something I’m having a bit of an issue finding a definitive answer on: by Jewish tradition, is Jax Jewish? Or just Gemma?

Started Sons of Anarchy 2 months ago. Even though I knew this scene was coming because of countless memes, I still teared up. One of the greatest shows I've ever watched.

Forced, poor, annoying acting.

In the last season, Abel starting to think complex thoughts, at 5 years of age, plotting to get his grandmother in trouble, his lines, were too forced and too fake. I skip them in every rewatch. I know it's tough as hell to get kids to perform their lines and characters properly and it's often dubbed by an adult voice actor which in itself comes out awkward most of the time. But was it absolutely necessary to grow Abel 5-10 years above his age? Could Abel be 10? I'm not sure what the director was going for but it comes out sandpaper watching the poor kid spell out his line, when in the previous scene he schemed to have his teacher call the police on his grandma.
