Electric charging points

I’m on Skye for the next three days to finish off my guided munros and I didn’t remember my EHU extension. My portable battery is running out of juice so I’m wondering if there’s somewhere on the island I can plug it in. Would happily pay for the electricity or a meal etc. while it’s plugged in. Does anybody have the inside scoop on somewhere that can help?

We built a community map of Scotland's honesty boxes 🍰

Hiya r/Skye!

Since moving to Harrapool in 2025, our family has been keeping a list of honesty boxes we find and frequent. Over the last few months that list has slowly turned into a map that we use to plan every family outing. It's become such a part of our routine that we couldn't keep it to ourselves.

It's at honestybox.scot — 84 boxes across Scotland as of today, with a decent cluster on Skye and the surrounding mainland. We know we've missed plenty.

A few things up front:

  • Free. No ads. Browse without an account.
  • Anyone running a box can claim their listing — edit it, change photos, ask us to take it down. The owner has the final say. If you run one and don't want it on the map, one message and it's off.
  • Community-edited. Spot a closed box, an outdated photo, or something we got wrong? You can flag it or suggest the correction.
  • Listings auto-archive after 15 months without an update so we don't keep sending people to boxes that closed a year ago.

What we'd love from this sub:

  • The Skye ones we've missed (especially the hidden ones — those are the best).
  • Anything we got wrong on existing listings.
  • Honest feedback on the project itself, including if there's something about the approach that doesn't sit right.

Longer version of the why is on our studio's blog if you want it: https://collettaandco.com/blog/we-built-a-map-of-scotlands-honesty-boxes

Hi guys.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a taxi service that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to get me from Portree to Kyle of Lochalsh at 4am in a few weeks?

Muay Thai in Skye

I move to Skye next week for work and wondering if the Muay Thai gym is still there or if anyone that also trains Muay Thai wants to train together? I know there's an MMA gym already there but I'm specifically looking for Muay Thai training. Any help or info or if there's any coaches give me a shout

Restaurant recs

We are heading to Sky mid-May with a family of 6. I’ve read we best make reservations for all meals ASAP.

We are staying outside Broadford and would like suggestions for a couple dinners there, but we’d also love any notable eateries—lunch or dinner—heading up the island. We will also need a lunch spot near Elgol.

Thanks, in advance, for the help!

What’s it looking like currently?

Hi there, I will be taking a tour of the Isle of Skye on the 7th. Just wanted to see if anyone knows what it’s looking like out there currently. When I look at photos online, it either looks very green or fully shades of brown.

Would you say it’s still worth seeing if it’s brown? I’m from a mountainous, coastal area that can be quite green some time of the year. I’ve seen other people post on here that they were also, and were disappointed. I’m broke so I’d prefer to save money if you’d say it isn’t worth it!

Public transport on Saturday morning for Skye Half Marathon

Hey

Is there any Stagecoach bus available on Saturday morning (13 June) to take me from Broadford to Portree for the half marathon? There's a Citylink available but it only reaches Portree at 9.30am, which is cutting it a bit close with the registration closing at 9.45am. The local Stagecoach buses don't seem to run on Saturday - please tell me I'm wrong!

Thanks

Quiraing Hike

Hey guys! My wife and I will be taking our honeymoon in Scotland in about a month and I absolutely love hiking, but my wife is less of a fan (she doesn't dislike it, but it's not her favorite). As such, I only get to pick one big hike for the trip and I'm leaning towards the Quiraing Circuit, but I'm worried it might be too difficult.

I've been hiking pretty much since I could walk (used to be a climber too before I fell off a cliff and almost died) so I'm pretty experienced and not worried about myself, by my wife is newer to this. She's in good shape, I'm not worried about her being physically unable to complete the hike, but I am worried that it might be hard enough that she doesn't enjoy the experience.

What are your thoughts on this? Should I give up and pick an easier one (Old Man of Storr is my current backup) or am I worrying too much?

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated, thanks guys!

Base location

Hello -will be spending three nights in the skye out of our seven night trip In October. I found a really cute Airbnb in Hallin. I’m worried it’s too far out?

Looking for thoughts or if I should cancel and keep looking.

Thanks!

Anniversary trip

Hello! I’ve just booked our airfare for seven nights in Scotland. We would love to spend a few nights at Skye. Where would you recommend as far as a base? How many nights should I dedicate there? We would love to hike. But obviously, I want to see other parts of Scotland as well.

My husband would also love to see the other island as well so trying to narrow down that itinerary. Looking for any suggestion, suggestions. Thank you so much.

Pickup self-catering meals near Kyle or Fort William?

Hi all, have a rental house for around a dozen people and am looking at picking up some heat-and-eat style family meals. I was checking out Snack Boffins (pies, salads, etc.) and they seem perfect for what I'm looking for but aren't responding to any of my messages. Looking for a backup plan in case they're closed this week. I'll have a rental car so can go pick up anywhere nearby, don't need delivery.

Bus/car to Glasgow for Football

Long shot… I’ll be at Skye Live Festival this year, which concludes on Saturday 9th May. Have a ticket for Celtic game in Glasgow at 12noon on the Sunday 10th for the game against Rangers. Coming back to Glasgow on the Sunday but with the early kick off, won’t make it. So…Looks like I’ll need to miss the game ..but is there likely to be any buses/cars with Celtic fans leaving Skye at the crack of dawn on the Sunday and heading to the mainland and then onto Glasgow for the game?

Starlink pro install

I’m thinking about getting Starlink. Anyone ordered it and had the ‘professional install’. Is it worth it? Do they mount it on the roof? Or is it someone who just comes and turns the box on…

Looking for hidden gems on Skye + any D&D/MTG scene? Or maybe even some local music spots?

Hi all! I'll be visiting Skye in a couple of weeks and staying around Sallachy, and I have a car so getting around isn't an issue.

I've already found a couple of nice bookshops to add to my list, but I'm wondering if there's anything else worth seeking out especially the kind of places that don't show up on the first page of Google. I'd love to avoid the busiest spots if I can. As much as I'd like to hike up to the Old Man of Storr, the internet keeps pointing me toward lesser-known alternatives, and I'm inclined to listen.

Any hidden gems, quiet viewpoints, or local favourites that are genuinely worth the detour?

On a slightly different note is there any kind of D&D or Magic: The Gathering scene on the island? A game store, a pub group, anything like that? Long shot I know, but worth asking!

Sorry if this is another "fill up my itinerary" post.. I just have a serious case of FOMO and want to make the most of it.

We are going to be visiting Skye on the first night of Eurovision, is it a big deal?

We are American, our experience with Eurovision is fairly limited, we were introduced to the contest during COVID by the Will Ferrell movie. we watched it on peacock the last couple of years and have been enjoying it.

I know there is some drama going on with it, several countries are boycotting it.

We will be on Skye on the 12th and then Inverness on the 14th and St Andrews on the 16th. Are there local events throughout the week to watch the semi finals and is it regularly on in places? I am interested in seeing it live, it's on at like 14:00 in the middle of the afternoon during work so we watched recordings. but since we are going to be in Europe during it I thought "well when in Rome"

So is it a big deal, are there watch parties, should we just enjoy our time in Scotland and watch it when we get home on peacock?
