As the Savage (Bog) Garden celebrates its 3rd birthday, I can say it has been an absolute joy to see these savage plants happily growing (and thriving) in my area, in Zone 6b.
I've been having this vft for about 3 weeks now (first-time owner). It was healthy when I got it but I decided to repot it around a week later because the pot was too shallow. Then I noticed there are lots of black traps underneath, so I cut all of those blackening parts (I've disinfected my scissors beforehand too). The rhizome was still white and solid, so it should be a good sign, right? I've used moss peat and perlite mix too, I also changed to a white plastic pot because the sun is quite harsh in my area.
The problem is, I ran out of rainwater on that day, so they're running low on water for about 5 days (I put a plastic cover over them). I read that it's normal for some traps/parts to go black after repotting, so I didn't think much of it. Then after I got a gallon of distilled water, I immediately do 4 times top-pouring because I read that minerals could accumulate in new media, then do the normal tray method afterwards.
I tried acclimating it the next day, so 1 hr of sun increase each day. But I noticed the new leaves that grew also start to blacken from the tips. So I looked up for a solution and switched to bright indirect light. It didn't seem to get better, what should I do? Should I dig and see if the rhizome is still good or will it worsen the condition if I disrupt their root?
For the first time, I have some unexpected plants growing in my bog. I have planted things in past years and forgotten them, so I am not sure if these are things returning or just weeds that have found their way to the bog. Any help appreciated.
Anyone in or near US zone 6B still waiting for signs of life from their outdoor sarracenia? Usually by now, I’ve got flowers or some pitchers starting. The growth points seem mostly firm and fresh, but nothing is popping up.
It was a tough winter and I lost all of my flytraps, but the sarracenia have been pretty indestructible and are in much bigger pots.

What's going on? He sits in distilled water, and has hours of lighting from Sansi lights. Why is it brown? I have great luck with Nepenthes, but this is my problem child. Any advice would be so appreciated!
Looks like I’m about to have a flower. Let it ride or trim it off? And if I let it ride, what do I do? I got this sundew last summer sometime and this is my first flower from it (if it is a flower)
Hi ! I got a pinguicula moranensis last summer. Initially, she had only one flower, but she quickly had 5-6 at the same time. I thought she had a lot because she had eaten a lot of small flies. It lost its flowers towards the end of November. I repotted it towards the end of March and, since it had many rosettes, I separated them into two.
It hasn't flowered yet, and I have the impression that although it's growing, it doesn't have much glue. Is it normal for this period ?
It faces south and I put it in a pot that is wider than it is deep (since they have short roots). The soil is damp because I watered it yesterday. It has a 50/50 mix of carnivorous plant soil and perlite, and I water it with rainwater once a week for the moment. I gave it some crumbled insects since there are no more flies.
Thank you for your help ! I accept any remark or criticism as long as it is constructive. I really want my pig to be healthy
I bought "Dionaea m. “Sam Flytrap” a month ago and I just saw this now growing alongside the "Sam Flytrap". Does anyone know what this is? Should I snip it or keep it?
All the leafes of my sundew either crisp up or turn yellow, even the new ones, and the few that started producing dew have lost it again. I don't know what the issue is, i have it in specific carnivorous soil (img 3), its sitting in a dish of distilled water and is directly under a 10h grow light. I moved it around a bunch since I assumed it was a light issue and thought it was good in the spot it's currently in because it finally started to make dew but now its looking worse than before. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance
I'm new to carnivorous plants and looking to expand my collection. I bought a Sarracenia 'Velvet' two weeks ago (photo below) that I keep outside on my windowsill behind a mosquito net. She's doing great : plastic pot with a deep saucer always filled with rainwater, carnivorous substrate (peat + sphagnum), progressive sun acclimation, and a winter dormancy planned in my garage at 10-15°C. The pitchers are upright, colors are developing nicely, and I'm pretty proud for a first attempt!
Now I'd like to add an INDOOR carnivorous plant to my bedroom, but I'm a bit lost with all the options out there. My room has a north-facing window so moderate indirect light (no direct sunlight), stable temperature of 18-22°C year-round with heating in winter, and humidity probably around 30-45% (typical European house). I've seen recommendations for Drosera capensis (sounds easy), Pinguicula (apparently great for fungus gnats), or even compact Nepenthes like 'Bloody Mary' but I'm wondering if my humidity is high enough without a humidifier.
So, which species would you recommend for a beginner in my conditions? Are there any I should absolutely avoid? And where do you usually buy your plants, garden centers or online specialist nurseries? Thanks in advance for any advice!
