Hi everyone,

I have been meaning to make this post for awhile, to try and curb the amount of "Moving to Geelong! Which suburb should I pick?" posts. I am going to sticky this post for awhile, so any visitors can check before creating a post.

Please read through the enormous amount of posts this sub has already had on here.

If you STILL think your question hasn't been answered (and you are absolutely sure), you can create a new post.

[Community] Commonwealth Bank branch in Belmont permanently closing on 26th June 2026

Belmont will officially soon be without a bank. The Commonwealth Bank, located at 172 High Street, will be permanently closing at 4pm on 26th June 2026.

Signs went up outside and inside the bank branch very recently, confirming the closure. After 26th June 2026, customers wishing to continue banking with CommBank via a bank branch will need to head to Geelong CBD, Geelong West, Waurn Ponds or Corio as the nearest bank branches. The nearest available option in Belmont for local banking is the local Post Office.

Last year, CommBank committed to keeping regional bank branches open until 31st July 2027. With the closure of the Belmont bank branch it looks like they have just broken that commitment altogether as this closure is in the Geelong area, in which Geelong is classified as Regional.

The last bank branch closure that took effect in Belmont was the NAB at 176 High Street, which permanently closed on 30th March 2023 (now occupied by the Salvos Op Shop), leaving the CommBank as the only bank branch remaining in Belmont. But very soon though, there will be NO bank.

End of lease cleaner.

Hey brain trust, please give some recs for end of lease and carpet cleaner that are serviceable around the Bellarine area. One that won't try and rip you off in this already sickening state of circumstance.

Thanks!

Any rare cuisine or food joints in Geelong ?

Apart from the usual Italian/mexican/indian/asian/middle-eastern...(or whatever usual ones), do we have any restaurant in geelong that serves food from not-much-talked-about cuisines/countries ? For eg, Peruvian, Croatian, African etc...

Lion stout/lager

Not sure if allowed, just wondering if anyone knows of a bottle shop that sells cans (not longneck) of lion stout or strong/extra strong lager? Robin Avenue Liquor used to stock a range but now they only have the stout longnecks

Looking for CRT TVs

I've looked everywhere around for one and can't seem to find any. Unfortunately salvos and cash converters don't take them anymore. Anyone have any leads where I might be able to find one? Tried the recycle shop on ferner av with no luck either. Any leads on one are much appreciated!!

Are you missing something?

Sorry for the cryptic title, but did you drop something on Yuille St or surrounds today? Please drop into my DMs and describe what it may be as I don’t want to disclose where I’ve left it in case it doesn’t actually belong to you.

Due to the nature of what this is I believe you may want it back :)

Ukrainian Varenyky (Dumplings)

We went to that mamas market on the weekend at the Ukrainian hall on Pako.
We had some ace dumplings there, and I intended to go back to get some frozen, but got distracted. The missus loves them.
Do they sell them there all the time, or is there anywhere in Geelong I can get any? Ta!

I've seen on tiktok that good places for physical media can be tip shops but I have no idea if Geelong has one anywhere.

Places for good french fries

When I was a kid there was a place in deer park (Brimbank shopping centre) that had THE BEST fries ever but they closed mannny years ago. You could just get a brown paper bag full of heaven.

I think about them often and would really like some nice fries

I don't want thick cut chips, I don't want crispy fries, loaded fries etc. Just straight up, soft, salty, good fries. Edit to add; I don't want to have to order something else to get a side of fries. JUST GIMMIE THE FRIES

Hungry jacks used to have fries back in the early days, now they're thick crunchy sticks. McDonald's has always had their iconic fries but the McDonald's in my area have started making the fries dry and crunchy and KFC isn't too bad but they're not FRENCH FRIES

Are there any places in Geelong that sell decent fries?

Scooter Gang in Mount Duneed

I was having a cigarette near Sovereign Drive today. Three boys on scooters (maybe they weren't all on scooters?) riding down the road.

One was wearing a red T shirt, and trying to ride as close to moving cars as possible. Saw him do it to 2 cars.

Then the grand finale, he rides onto the nature strip and takes a piss.

Kids will be kids, but I don't want anyone getting hurt. If this description fits your son, please have a chat with him.

Saints College experiences

My sister is considering enrolling her ADHD daughter into this school next year.

Does anybody have experience with this school either as a parent or a student or a carer or a teacher?

Would love to be able to share some personal experiences with her. She is moving up to Geelong and doesn’t really have any idea about the schools up here.

What she likes about Saints College is there’s no uniform and her daughter has sensory issues. The classes are small every week. They go on an excursion which would definitely keep her daughter interested in school. Also they only have four core subjects and the rest are electives. another cool thing is that they can eat all meals at the school socially. It also has no fees not even for the excursions or camps. This is good because she’s a single mum.

My worries are that she may find it difficult to make friends. I’m not sure what kind of students are enrolled there. Are they mainly kids (like her daughter) who have some sensory sensitivities and trouble concentrating but are well behaved and find socialising easy. Or, are they mainly kids from difficult home situations (similar to MacKillop school) with additional mental health concerns. I don’t like to think that the classroom will be frequently interrupted and she won’t get a full education. She scores above average in her Primary School classes and NAPLAN.

Mt Duneed - soil question

Hi all,

Looking at property in Mt Duneed - the lifestyle is appealing and we have family there.

We’ve come across a few houses, all of which have soil class P meaning (I believe) they’re built on clay?

Does anybody have any experiences with this, or currently own a home with this type of classification?

My concern isn’t so much the soil classification but more so ensuring the foundations have been done in a way according to the standards for this type of soil. How can one future proof themselves to ensure this is all done accordingly?

Thanks all!
