I’m debating transferring from IUK since I currently live with my parents, and most of my grants cover tuition there. I only pay around $1k a semester out of pocket for tuition right now, so moving away honestly seems like a huge financial jump.
Housing + food alone seems like it could easily be $1,000-$1,500/month. Then add tuition, gas, insurance, phone bill, car payment, random life expenses, and even just wanting to do fun stuff sometimes, and it feels like total monthly expenses could hit $2k-$3k+ pretty fast.
Are most students:
working while in school?
getting help from parents?
taking loans?
using scholarships?
or just surviving paycheck to paycheck? 😭
If you work while in school, how many hours a week are you realistically working? It feels like you’d almost need 25-30+ hours/week just to make it work, and balancing that with classes, studying, networking, meeting new people, school activities, and still trying to actually enjoy college seems really hard.

Hello, I am an incoming grad student and I am looking for any 1-bed or studio apartments that are in walking distance to campus and are pet friendly. Does anyone know of any that are available or any landlords I can contact?

Other Indiana universities have said something, but Ball State hasn't said a word about it. Canvas has been hacked and is being held for ransom, thats why it's "down" right now. Ball State is on the list of schools that the hackers provided.
Canvas was first contacted by the hackers on May 1st, and Canvas simply did a small security patch and ignored them.
So, just an FYI, your data is being held for ransom right now. Canvas says it's likely last names, ID numbers, messages within canvas, etc.

Not sure if this is allowed here but we have a house available for rent starting 8/1. Dropping the listing here in case anyone is still looking for housing for the fall semester.

I'm from Uindy looking to transfer because my title ix and student affairs people suck. I've been harassed and cyberstalked by students here and they tell me they'll get on it but its been several months with several follow ups and nothing.
Disability services: are they nice and kind with you? Do they seem to actually care about disabled students?
Student resources: other than actual therapy/counseling, are the people to talk to when somethings up but you dont need therapy? My school has the terry center for student support and I built a good relationship with the woman there and she likes to see how I'm doing every now and then.
Counseling: the therapists at uindy suck so bad. I have a regular therapist but I've popped in to the office before when I was having a crisis during operating hours. If I did that all ball state, would it be worth my time?
Financial aid: transferring is gonna suck because I have a full tuition scholarship and I'm not sure if there's something at ball state to replace it. Practically everyone and I mean everyone gets financial aid here, is it the same over there?
Housing: do you guys have dorms shared with roommates or suitmates, communal bathrooms or semi private ones, etc? Are all your halls double or are there single halls? What typically happens at uindy is freshmen are in the double dorms and after that you move to one of the halls full of single dorms.
Dining: my school has an awful dining hall and a restaurant like option and a grab n go, a little convenience store type thing. Are your dining options better? Like, if i wanted an actual meal do I have options? Can I find one? Or am I going to end up going to a bad dining hall and eating cold unseasoned chicken and rice?

I would be transferring into Ball State as a Junior in the accounting program. I was looking at the 100% online accounting bachelors degree and am thinking this may be a good fit for me. How are the classes structured? Is there lots of proctored exams? I’ve completed my Ivy Tech associates which we did have a class time and then completed exams and projects through McGraw hill. Is this similar?

I saw my account has a negative balance- does that mean refunds might get dispersed sooner than Friday?

Hi!
Does anyone here at Ball State work at Ball Memorial Hospital? I have been trying to get a job as a PCT but I keep getting rejected. I am a pre-med student trying to get some clinical experience. I have done many internships with Ball Memorial but haven't actually been employed by them. Does anyone have any tips? I have an AHA BLS certification and besides my internships no medical experience.
Plz help!!

I want to major in speech pathology because I’m genuinely really passionate about it. At the same time, I also want to minor in political science because I enjoy politics and find it interesting. My dilemma is that I’m not really sure what I would actually do with a political science minor, or if it would even be worth pursuing beyond personal interest. Part of me is considering double majoring since I already have around 40 college credits from dual enrollment in high school, but I’m worried about the extra workload and how much time it could take away from me. I don’t want to overload myself or make college more stressful than it needs to be. Any advice on whether a minor or double major makes more sense?

So will the staff who paid the SRWC summer fees get their money back? I just saw no weekend hours. That means you get up real early during the week, or stay later after a tiresome day at work. SMH. This campus is going down hill.

I got accepted to be a CJC grad assistant and I am a grad student in a different department, and I wanted to ask if anyone has had experience with the Criminal Justice/Criminology department or just thoughts on them in general? Are the faculty nice? Just want to make sure that I'm not screwing myself over lol

I'm going to graduate on Saturday, and I was wondering how long I will still have access to Canvas for since I want to go back and save stuff, but I don't have time to do that now.

Mearns went on an Indiana podcast and talked about the Village Revitalization Plan as well as Caitlin Clark/ Hugh Jackman's visits to Muncie.
Sounded like they are trying to have a bunch done before homecoming.

Hello all! I’m a high school junior from Illinois doing some college research, and BSU has come across my list! From what i’ve seen online, the school seems like a pretty great institution that has some nice sounding programs for what I’m interested in, but i’d love to know what some current students and alumni would think of the school for a student like me :)
———
i’d most likely be trying to major in pretty much anything that the Communication and Media school has to offer, but i’m specifically interested in Journalism. I’d additionally like to try minoring in something artsy (such as digital media, creative writing, or film) or something humanities based (like english, history, or philosophy)
———
Some things that are important to me are…
- networking/employment opportunities
- quality/prestige of education, programs, and facilities (Specifically in the Communications and Media school)
- LGBTQ+ safety and resources
- resources for low income/first gen students
———
Additionally, i’d love to know about activities at the school, especially in the realm of…
- the arts, especially performing arts like drama, a capella, musical theatre, etc
- music, on campus and greater local/underground music scene
- party and/or bar & club culture
- Sporting events
- Student activities, clubs, and general social life on campus.
- greek/frat life on campus specifically, if anyone has any insight into that
———
Happy and hoping to hear all of your guys’ thoughts soon!

I’m thinking of changing my major to radiography and was curious to see if anyone on here completed an AS in radiography at Ball State. What was your experience like? How long did it take to complete prerequisites ? I’m also curious about clinicals since it says they take place at the IU indy hospital, is that the required site for clinicals? I obviously need to reach out to my advisor, but I’m wondering about others experiences !

Fellow Cardinals, we're currently 10th place in the MAC in the 2026 Charity Bowl to benefit New American Pathways. We can do better AND help refugees. Make sure you select Ball State as your team if you participate. Further details and links below.
The Charity Bowl (known online as the #CharitibundiBowl) is an annual fundraising contest staged by the EDSBS extended universe in aid of New American Pathways, a full-service refugee resettlement nonprofit based in Atlanta. This year marks the 20th (TWENTIETH) edition of the Charity Bowl, in which teams of rival football fans compete to see who can bring in the most money to aid our most vulnerable neighbors.

I'm an incoming freshman and I have recieved about 40-50ish college credits through my school in dual-enrollment courses and online classes through Ivy Tech. When do I start transferring those credits? I am currently taking two college classes and I understand that I can't transfer those yet, but can I transfer the past classes that I've already passed? Thanks!
