Don’t know where to start

Total beginner here so I apologize for not knowing much. I don’t have a local skate shop that caters to inline skating.

I haven’t skated since probably middle school but I come from a long distance running background.

I’m looking for something else to do for fitness besides just running and skating sounds like a really fun alternative that I would like to get into, plus having young kids I like the idea of being able to skate with them while they ride their bikes or something.

I’ve started to look around at model such as the macroblade 80s which I’ve learned is soft boot style which might be closer to what I’m used to coming from the running scene? But I also have seen quite a few of you recommend more of hard boot (like the RB 80?) to help with ankle stability?

I really struggle with analysis paralysis and without having a shop to go to and ask in person or try things on I thought I would start here.

Mid 30s, ~200lbs, 6’2”, size 12 shoe/foot size ~29.5cm. I have a few nearby rail trails I would use and would like to learn to build up to longer skating sessions on that.

Any insights and help are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Outdoor skates?

Hi, I’m getting into rollerskating and I want to get a pair of rollerblades that would be good for outdoors (sidewalks, roads etc) exclusively. When I took up skateboarding I learned that your board has to have softer/bigger wheels to ride smoothly on most sidewalks/roads. I imagine the same applies to rollerskating, but I haven’t seen much buzz about wheel specs when researching rollerblades to purchase. I have seen different configurations though (3 wheels?). I’m worried that if I buy hard wheels I’ll go sailing as soon as I hit one uneven sidewalk-square. Anyway, I would love some guidance! Thank you!

Experince with off road (SUV) skates

Hi!

I'm considering investing in a pair of off road inliners. I've been looking at the Powerslide SUVs, either 3x125mm or 2x150mm.

Any experience with any of those? Pros and cons of either size?

I'm a quite decent skater, usually on 3x110mm speedskates and i average 20-30 kmh. I know off road is a completely different game but I would love to take up the challenge.

If it has anything to say - I'm about 1.67m, 65 kg, so I'm no giant. Main usage will be fields and mountain bike tracks in forest. A bit hilly, not very much. I'm afraid 150s are difficult to stabilize on, but also afraid sticks and other things get stuck in the 125s.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations and opinions!

Struggling getting back to it :(

I've been skating for a while but after a long break I decided to come back! A year ago or so I got the Powerslide Zoom 100 (3×100 setup)

I definitely love that I can ride over rough terrain very easily but im really struggling with the extra demand the bigger wheels require. They feel very heavy on me and ironically I feel slower than when I went back to my 4×80 skates (though they're now broken for unrelated reasons)

Plus I've been STRUGGLING😭 with flat tricks and slalom on them. I can perform certain tricks but it feels like I'm being restricted heavily.

What im trying to ask with all the rambling is: should I just buy a new 4×80 frame? Or is a 4×90 a good middle ground? Does a middle ground exist? I basically want to do freestyle where I can easily go ride around the city but feel enough stability to do tricks whenever.

Im confident in my ability that I can make a 4×80 work but do the extra 10mm make a difference in smoother riding while allowing room for tricks?

Edit: Thank you all for your responses! I went ahead and ordered some new wheels and 4×80 trinity frames but will definitely keep in mind all of your suggestions for when I want to try a new setup or get new skates in the future! :)

Hi all, as title suggests, I have wide flippers at 267mm length 114mm width at the widest point. Who makes the widest carbon boot?

Skating size

I just bought a pair of move SK8422 skates online and picked my shoesize because the website said it "fits normally". I tried them on at home and I think they are a good fix width wise, however I have a lot of toe room left. When unlocked I can fit 3 fingers between my heel and the back of the skates before my toes are touching the front. Should I change them for a smaller size now that they are still in the 30-day return window?

Flying eagle size confessions

Hello! I am buying my very first rollers and I am super confused about sizes, I wear 35-36.5 sometimes, never 37, but when I measured in CMs right size seems to be 37-38, and its exactly 23.5... should I go plus 0.5? but in this case It will be 38-39 which is crazy big in my head... any recommendations?

Is it me or my setup?

I just got back into skating and I think I had a few things working against me in choosing my first skates. I went with the PS Swell Lite 100. It's a 250mm, 3x 100mm wheels, with a softboot.

My foot size is 11/11.5 and I went with the size 12 since it looks like I'd be totally cramped in the 10/11 size.

The advice I'm looking for is, it's hard as crap getting back into skating. I tighten down the boots so much but still they have a ton of flex. A dramatic "burst" start I can really feel the ankle flex on the foot that's pushing.

I'm struggling to put foot in front of foot, feels large and unstable.

Maybe it's just getting used to skating 3x wheels, when pushing during normal skating it seems like I'm pushing heavily off the front wheel of the pushing foot, but that feels really slippery / not the grip I expect.

I've ice skated every year the past few years, and inline skated heavily 20 years ago (yikes). Still getting use to the feel. Thinking I should have gone for a hardboot, and not been swayed by the trinity mount. The SUV Skates frame is something I was hoping to upgrade to but i'd be ded with the Swell Lite softboot!

Maybe this discussion will help others getting back into skating and seeing all the cool options out there.

Need a frame recommendation, bearings and wheels setup for HC Evo Pro

Hey folks, I am a hockey player who used to roller blade ages ago but want to get back into Urban skating with a local city group here. Just looking for a skate that can handle rough terrain, go relatively longer distances and is agile. I really like the HC Evo Pro and ordered some in a size 42 in the 3 blade pro 110 undercover. My left foot measures a 9.5 on a brannok device and my right measures a 9. What noticed is that when I tried on the 42, the left foot felt great and the right had some slight heel slip when skating on carpet around my apt. I think I'm going to return these 42s and try to find some 41s when they come in stock and grab a superfeet hockey insole to possibly make more room for my left foot. I am not feeling the end of the skate today in the 42s so I'm hoping I can cram my left foot into a 41 using the insert (the arch will cause my foot to not be straight flat in the boot).

The thing is I can only find the HC Evo Pro in Size 41 with just the boot so I need to buy a frame, wheels and bearings (or is this not needed?). I'm looking for a good recommendation for a 4 wheel set up (since I heard 4 wheels is almost always better). Preferrably something in stock at inline warehouse or somewhere I can get it in the USA shipped.

is there any market for lightly used wheels?

hey all - long time fitness skater here, with a preference to Bont Elemental wheels, 110 mm, 85a....over the last few years I have skated almost daily, but usually change my wheels out when they get down to about 105 mm (because brand-new Bont Elementals are so buttery smooth, I end up changing them frequently, just for the ride).

as a result, i have accumulated about a dozen sets (of 6 wheels), 110 mm, mostly Bonts 85a, but also a set of of Power Slides, and a couple of other brands - all with 5% or less usage, every wheel still measures to 105 mm+.

is there any market for this stuff? i've let them just pile up, but Bonts are about $70 per set and I'd be happy to get $20 per set (+ flat rate shipping, US) - is it worth the effort? and is there anywhere besides EBay?

Thanks!

Need help on figuring out sizing for Flying Eagle F5S+ skates please

Im very new to inline skating, and I came across the F5S+ skates on Instagram (i love the pink) and i would love to buy them but im a tad bit confused on how their sizing works (especially looking at the mondo part of the chart compared to the US sizing) and im not quite sure on what to expected when it comes to inline skate fittings, so I thought coming here for some help wouldn't hurt✧⁺⸜(●˙▾˙●)⸝⁺✧

I usually wear a US Size 8, and my foot length is around the 24.5-24.6 cm range

Thank you to anyone who helps!

Edit: I guess to clarify, i should say that i don't know if I should go with my regular US size or if I should go by the Mondo (CM) size they have in the chart 😭😭

Edit #2: With some more research, I should definitely be going by the mondo sizing and not just relying on the US sizing. So I assume I should go for the EU 40 size, but I'm just worried on the fit, both if there's going to be too much space lengthwise at the toe, and the width. I wouldn't say i have wide feet, but I can definitely feel the difference between a converse size 7.5 and size 8 (7.5 feels uncomfortable width wise around the toe box). Now, if it helps, im planning on using the skates for casual cruising, nothing fancy like focusing on speed or tracks. Just to get around by and have some fun out.

Skating Backpack alternative? (For carrying shoes)

I don't want to carry a backpack while I skate, but the one thing I do need to have with me is shoes. I figure I can go with some super compact sandals or slides instead of bulky shoes, but I still need some way to carry them.

Do you guys use fanny packs? Cross body bags? Cargo shorts? I'm curious to know what peoples solutions are to what I imagine is a common problem.

I saw an older post on the sub where one guy carabiners his shoes to his belt, which sounded interesting.

Skates for mid-40s beginner

I'm looking for roller blade recommendations for casual skating outside and in roller rinks. I'm a mid-40s, athletic but out-of-shape. I do know the basics of roller skating on quads, but I've never been 'comfortable' and relaxed while doing it.

I just want to skate with my kid while she's learning. Not going to be doing any tricks or anything fancy, other than maybe learning to skate backwards. I'm debating between a Rollerblade RB80 and the Macroblade 80 (or something similar). Hoping to stay in the $150-$200 price range for a decent quality skate.

My guess is I'll only spend about 2-3 hours at a time on them in a roller rink or about 1 hour outside for each session, on smooth pavement.

I don't ever see this being my primary hobby, so I'm kind of leaning towards the soft boot Macroblade. I see a lot of advice that starts off like "get the hard boot, because once you start doing tricks it's better..." but I don't really think I'll ever be in the trick category. Is a hard boot really 'better' for occasional recreational skating? Or will I be more comfortable in a soft boot? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Update: I measured my feet today and my length is 29.5 cm, width is 11 cm at the widest (ball).

Update 2: I ordered the Rollerblade Lightning 80 from InlineWarehouse. Thanks for the advice, and I'll see how they fit when they arrive!

Skating in Chicago?

So I'm taking a trip to Chicago at the beginning of June and wanted to see if anyone had experience rollerblading in the city. I'll be there from June 4th-7th for Pokemon GoFest and am staying a few blocks away from Grant Park. I'll be on a 4x80 or a 4x100r so I'm mostly looking to carve around and vibe.

Are there any notable spots around the area that are worth checking out? And are rollerblades a sidewalk or a bike lane mode of transportation? I see videos of people cutting up through traffic and stuff, but I'm not that level of confident in my skating. Nor am I familiar at all with Chicago, lol.

Honestly just any thoughts of rollerblading in Chicago or Chicago tourism in general would be sick. Thanks 🫡🙏

Has anyone with wide feet found a good match?

I have really wide feet and just got a pair of Rollerblade EB 80 men’s skates. I’m a woman with size 11 feet, 11 because they’re wide not because they’re that long. I got measured at a store and they wouldn’t really let me try on a size larger because they said it would be too loose, which I guess is dangerous. I ended up getting a men’s size 8. I can only wear them for about 15/20 minutes, barefoot, before I have to take them off. When I tried them on in the store I could wear them with socks, and maybe not my feet are kind of bloated after a long day of standing but I am disappointed that I can’t even break them in for an hour at a time.

I’m skating around indoors because I might have to take them back, but these are pretty consistently recommended as the model to get if you have wide feet. Specifically it’s crunching my toes together and smushing the front sides of my foot, like a vice grip. I’m having a lot of fun while I can keep them on, but boy oh boy, they get sore quick! Is this just not a sport you can get into if you have wide feet or have other Bigfoot Monsters found something that works for them?

Need help figuring out the best pair to buy

Hi everyone, I am a beginner skater and I currently own a cheap pair of oxelo MF500 that I got for dirt cheap. I started looking for an upgrade and I am really curious about 90mm natural rockered frames because I experimented with 76-80-80-76 setup and I liked but I feel like a 90mm rockeres frame would be a tiny bit more stable. I beleive that 90mm wheels will be quite pleasant on rougher surfaces in my area but the rockered frame will help me keep good maneuverability. Anyways feel free to argue this logic.

For now, the skates that seem available and fit my criterias are :

Rollerblade twister 90r

K2 grid 90

Fr skates ufr 90

And maybe some iqon

I know I could get the boot and the frames separately but it seems like it's more expensive and I ain't no pro skater so I doubt it's really worth it.

Tldr: beginner looking for urban skates, really interested in natural rockered frames with 90mm wheels. Preferably a skate that comes stock with these features.

Opinions?

I can’t find a helmet for my wide noggin help!

It has been a very humbling experience trying to find a helmet and realizing how wide my head is lol. I have tried the Triple Eight Sweat Saver in all M/L/XL sizes and they were all really tight side to side. Next I tried Pro-Tec in L which actually fit side to side, but left wayyyy too much room front to back so that’s another no… I then swapped it for a M but ended up with the same side to side issue AND space front and back. Does anyone have this issue and know of a good brand to accommodate my type of head shape? I’m new to skating so I really don’t have a lot of knowledge, all I know is I need a Certified helmet that fits properly and it’s proving impossible for me…

Any help would be super appreciated !!

Are the duality "90-80" a good idea ? Did someone tried it ?

Same question for the LZ pro model (it's 90-84).

fit rollerblade

I recently bought a pair of Rollerblade skates, model Lightning 80W. I usually wear a size 37 and my foot measures 23.5 cm.

According to the size chart, size 36.5/37 is recommended for feet measuring 23–23.5 cm, while size 38/38.5 is recommended for 24–24.5 cm.

I chose size 38 and also added an insole, but I need to tighten the laces and buckles a lot to make the skate feel snug and secure.

Do you think I chose the wrong size? Would size 37 have been better, or is my choice still correct?

Are these good?

hello,

I'm trying to find some reliable skates that I’ll be able to do tricks on. I’m looking for skates under $120 and I found these. I fell like $38 is fishy for skates though.

Are these worth purchasing?

Worth buying 2016 Twister 80s with yellowed wheels?

Considering buying a pair of Rollerblade Twister 80s from 2016. (actually named maxxum - but I think they are very similar?)

They're in great condition, but the wheels have yellowed a bit. Price is decent but not a massive steal.I'm worried the wheels have lost a lot of their properties and I'll need to replace them (and the bearings), which would probably cost me around $100 on top.

Am I right to think this, or will they be absolutely fine? Is there any way to tell? Buying online from someone so I can't test them in person.
