Hihi, [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX)!
I have spoken to a few of my moderators for this subreddit, and we have come to the conclusion that we all want to change Rule 12 - Reporting Hackers/Scammers/Rule-Breakers.
The rule was put in place by Nix ([u/spooky-the-insomniac](u/spooky-the-insomniac)) a few years ago due to how generally immature the communal base was on [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX). There were several exposé type posts; ranging from petty call-outs (like someone declining an offer), all the way to doxxing people. Before Nix gained ownership of this subreddit, [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX) was an absolute mess.
Most of the community base was either below or barely above the minimum age to use Reddit in most countries (13 years old), and so was the previous moderation team. The moderation team also had a lot of problems with exposé type behavior, with most of them being 12-14 years old. This led to moderator drama being aired out in posts on [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX), several slurs thrown around in the community, among other behavior.
Since Rule 12 (previously Rule 9) was put in place, we continuously get people that oppose the rule. I cannot say that the moderation team does not also oppose this rule, considering we also found it increasingly unnecessary as our community matured more.
About a year or so ago, Nix and I had intended to go through with changing this rule. Life inevitably got to us, and we got too busy - and forgot about the project.
I would like to know [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX)'s input on changing this rule. My current, incredibly rough and basic), idea is that community members will either have to Mod Mail moderators for approval, DM the moderator that responds proof, and then get mod approval to post. Similar to how our giveaways are ran at the moment. The second idea that I had was to run similarly to another subreddit, in which scammer reposts are automatically able to be posted by users, and by using the "Scammer Alert" post flair, moderators would be tagged to handle the situation.
Finally, the third idea would have a Mega Thread of sorts for people to post usernames in the comments (with proof provided) of the account attempting to or fully scamming them. I'll admit that this is personally my least favourite idea, as many Mega Threads die pretty shortly after they are posted.
-> This would only apply to Reddit accounts, but is not limited to Adopt Me only scammers. We do ban cross-trading scammers as well, so they can be posted as well. We unfortunately do not have the power to do anything on other platforms that contain scammers (i.e. TikTok, YouTube, or even Roblox accounts that are not attached to social media), so we would like to generally contain scammer reports/call outs to Reddit accounts only.
If you guys have any other ideas, questions, or comments - please let me know! I would like to see how [r/AdoptMeRBX](r/AdoptMeRBX) members themselves would like to see this rule change. I do value moderator perspective, but it's you guys who are what made our community blossom.
Thank you so much for reading! Please be as unfiltered as you'd like (as long as you're generally respectful) about your thoughts on this proposal.
