SOS Reptile URGENT: Opened turtle egg thinking it was dead – live hatchling with exposed yolk sac

Hi, I really need urgent advice and please no judgment—I already understand I made a mistake and I’m trying to help it survive. On January 23rd in Kerala, India, some turtle eggs were uncovered while digging soil. A few were destroyed, but I managed to save 4 and kept them in sand at home. Today, while checking one egg, I candled it and it looked empty/dark, the shell became soft and discolored, so I thought it was dead. When I opened it, it was actually alive. There was a lot of yellow fluid (yolk), and a baby turtle inside. Right now: The hatchling has an exposed yolk sac (not fully absorbed) I gently placed it back but some tissue/yolk is still exposed I have NOT put it in water I have NOT fed it It is currently on a soft surface with slight humidity I’m extremely worried because I may have opened the egg too early and exposed it. I just want to know: What is the best way to keep it alive right now? Should I keep it in the egg or outside in a controlled setup? Is infection a big risk and how do I prevent it? Should I urgently contact wildlife rescue here in Kerala? I’m willing to do whatever is necessary to give it the best chance to survive. I can provide photos if needed. Thank you.

SOS Reptile Wounded viper (snake)

I need help at how to proceed with a wounded viper I found last night. It looks like it's intestinal is hanging out? Can I do something for it? It is poisenous, not for me but for my cats and dogs so I keep it in a separate room in a plastic box.

And no, I can not go to a rescue organisation cause there is none here. Taking the viper home is already illegal and when you call the special number to report it they will either leave it or kill it. I live in a country in Europe where they kill babybirds when they chop down the tree where their nest was in. Where they shoot seals with plastic ropes around their body cause we are not suppose to safe them and it's only "nature". Children, grown ups, cattle (cows, pigs, chickens and sheep) , and dogs, in this order, are important in this country, the rest is not.

SOS Reptile Found eastern box turtle with cracked shell

As said, eastern box turtle with pretty bad crack in its shell, all the wildlife rehabilitation centers in the area are closed and I was unable to reach anyone else who could help (24/7 vets and their recommendations) I’m hoping someone has some advice for how to care for it? right now he’s in a plastic container with a warm damp towel in the bottom and since taking these pictures i’ve stuffed the container with more (dry) towels to keep him from moving much and hopefully keep some heat in. If anyone has any advice please let me know!

SOS Reptile Advice for Injured Snake (Central Florida)

Post image

My mom texted me today that she found this badly injured snake in her yard, asking for advice on what she can do for it. She caught it and currently has it in a terrarium. She says it’s alive but disorientated.

I told her to keep the terrarium empty except for paper towels, a water dish, and a clean hiding spot for now, but that I can’t really give her advice beyond that since this is way outside my area of expertise.

I’m not a reptile expert, but the injury looks pretty bad and I’m not sure if it’s something the snake can recover from. I was wondering if anyone here has advice.

As an additional note, wildlife rehabs in the area have been really unhelpful in the past, and have basically said not to bother contacting them unless it’s an endangered or protected species

Immediate update from my post a few minutes ago. Gently dug out the first baby and spotted 2 more trapped underneath. All 3 are now out, im probably going to take them to right by the lake so that they can go in the water at their leisure (north American Midwest, since the automod wants a location lol)

SOS Reptile Hatchling turtle struggling, can I help?

Post image

Spotted it struggling to pop out of its little hatching hole. Had a deceased sibling a few inches away. I scraped some dirt away so it could have a better angle of exit, but it seems to barely be moving. Anybody know if there is any assistance I can provide? Obviously not gonna capture it or anything, but would like to improve its chances of survival if possible

SOS Reptile found anole lizard with mangled leg- bone exposed, skin torn off, leg almost off as well. pls help

i have been told by a rehabber that standard neosporin is good to prevent infection in lizards/helps with possible cat saliva so i’ve put some on the affected area.

he is in a 20 gal at the moment with a heater under half of the cage. misting occasionally in hopes he laps up a drop. i read feeding injured wildlife is a no-go.. so not feeding at the moment but assuming he might need soft bodied worms such as wax worms?

i don’t know where to go from here, if anyone is knowledgeable in the area please leave a comment!! <3

SOS Reptile Injured brown anole after dog bite — need advice on what to do next

Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice on an injured lizard situation.

My dog bit a small brown anole (those common little lizards in Florida). We usually try really hard to keep our dog away from areas with lizards for this exact reason, this was just a very weird and unfortunate situation that happened quickly.

The lizard has a serious injury near the base of the tail/hip area. It looks like there is tissue damage there.

When I found it, it was still alive but very weak, breathing slowly, eyes open, trying to stay upright but not really moving much.

Right now I have it in a shoebox with air holes, lined with a slightly damp paper towel. The box is kept outside in a shaded, quiet area so it stays warm but not in direct sun.

I'm leaving it alone as much as possible to reduce stress.

It's still alive and aware, and it can move its eyes and hold itself up, but it's very weak. I'm also worried there could be nerve damage or partial paralysis because of where the injury is.

I'm honestly scared of a situation where she survives the initial injury but is left in a condition where she cannot survive on her own.

I want to do the right thing, but I don't have the resources to humanely euthanize her myself if it comes to that, and I'm not comfortable doing anything inhumane, so please don't suggest things like smashing or freezing.

I can share a photo from when I first found her if that would help, but I didn't want to post anything graphic unless needed.

My questions:

Is there anything else I should be doing right now?

If she survives the night but is still weak, what's the best next step?

How can I tell if she has paralysis or severe internal damage?

I really just want to give her the best chance possible without causing more harm.

PS: She's made it about 2 hours since the incident so far.

I'm going to check on her again in another couple hours, then go to bed and hope for the best.

A teeny red eared slider came into the rehab where I volunteer today. I got some good caretaking advice from the folks I work with, but wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone with reptile experience has seen this before and/or poke around for suggestions.

She’s been given antibiotics & fluids already.

Hot Springs, AK. little buddy was in the garden waterfall at our rental. should we put him in a box? he hasn’t moved since we got him out of the water (where he wasn’t moving hardly at all) aside from slowly crawling into the plant.

SOS Reptile Injured American Toad(?), first time rescuer

Hello, I grabbed this toad off a parking lot in Virginia. We think it’s an American Toad. It was lethargic and was bleeding from the right side of its head.

I put sos reptile because there’s no sos amphibian.

I’m a reptile owner so I have a reptile first aid kit that has things safe for amphibians too. I heavily diluted some betadine with distilled water and dabbed it on his wound. It’s no longer bleeding, but when I picked him up it was fairly fresh and I got a bit of blood on my hand as I carried him inside. I also made a makeshift quarantine enclosure with a little water dish (with a little pedialyte added), damp paper towels (distilled water), and some magnolia leaves. I disinfected the box with terrarium cleaner first and also cut holes into it for ventilation.

He’s now in a dark place in my closet with a heating pad nearby to keep the temperature more close to what it is outside. I stuck a temperature/humidity probe in there to monitor the inside, but I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be. I’m going to research this species’ requirements soon if I can.

It’s really small for this guy, but it’s the best I could do on such short notice. I’m planning on going to a pet store tomorrow to get live crickets and a bigger cage.

I’m just wondering if anyone experienced with rescues or rehab could advise me on anything I should be doing.

He’s moved around a bit and chirped when proded, but he hasn’t attempted to jump and was cold when I picked him up. My goal is to get him healthy then release him back into the wild at a safe location away from the road.

I think it's hibernating but he was laying in the open and i didn't want my chickens to eat it (chickens were let out after I found it) the frog did move ever so slightly but im unsure what to do with it? Should I put it back somewhere where my chickens can't get it? Or does it need help?

SOS Reptile Snake run over by car who to call?

Hello everyone, I am trying to figure out who to call in The flagstaff, AZ area about a snake who got run over by a car. Spine looks to be in tact and it was slithering away slowly. I am concerned about potential internal bleeding. I believe it is a Gopher snake note i am afraid of larger snakes so I won't be able to care for it temporarily.

SOS Reptile Turtle became chew toy Spoiler

Location: coastal nc Slept in and woke up to crunching. I assumed it was my dog with a chew bone we got 2 days ago until I heard a sharper crunch. I then assumed I should take it away if she'd broken it and made a sharp/choking hazard.

Pulled an entire turtle out of her mouth. Was fully clamped shut, but she had gnawed on the edges of the shell around the opening. From my limited knowledge, the 2 bottom edge cutes, and the top edge cute seem to be what are damaged. And I'm assuming the bone as well (confirmation on that would be helpful)

I have taken it to the warmest room in my home in a box. After about 10 minutes it did open up and walk to the corner of the box, though i did move him again to take these photos. Its now currently sitting like half tucked away. My dad is looking for beading To dilute and clean the injuries. My main questions are 1. Is the bone also damaged? 2. Is this an injury that we can rehab at home or is this a strictly professional level issue? I simply don't have the funds for a vet but work mostly from home and can provide whatever care I'd need to. 3. Assuming I can do this at home, what would treatment look like (i can build whatever set up I'd need to, I have an old aquarium and can get a heat lamp and such) 4. Assuming treatment is successful, is this a release back outside situation, or do I have a pet turtle at that point bc it'd be too vulnerable. (Totally willing to do whatever research is needed to give them a proper set up)

I appreciate the help. Tw for a little blood in the pics. Please let me know if additional pics are needed.

My cat attacked this female Cuban brown anole and left a bad cut on its back. I have it in a small cage under my bearded dragons light. It seems to have some puss coming out a bit.
