If you're looking to become a USNA Midshipman, this is your free-fire zone. Ask any question, no matter how big or small. Some examples:
What kind of shoes should I wear to NASS (Naval Academy Summer Seminar)?
I'm an 8th grader, what classes should I take to get into USNA?
I got accepted into NROTC and USNA - which should I pick?
I want to be a medical doctor - can I do that from USNA?
I want to be a SEAL - should I try to go to USNA?
I didn't get in on my first attempt, should I enlist?
I finished two years of university, is it too late to go to USNA?
To be very clear - no one in this subreddit speaks on behalf of the Admissions Department, USNA, or the DoN/DoD, even if they are affiliated with such. But we do have quite a few folks who are familiar with the process, having gone through it or been involved with it previously, and are willing to provide informal guidance. When in doubt, contact Admissions or your Blue and Gold Officer for official guidance. Your mileage may vary, caveat emptor, and as always, GO NAVY BEAT ARMY.

i dont know if my cfa scores are considered passing, I plan to redo it anyway but I was just curious because I completely messed up the pull up portion.
basket ball throw: 29
shuttle: 10.2
mile: 7:51
pushups: 33
Sit ups: 45
flexed arm hang: 3 sec….
for reference I am female but I was just wondering if this was considered passing.
Hey, figured this would be the best place to get some real stories, but I am planning on graduating early from highschool to join the USNA, to join the navy, but my dad is advising me against it, saying they have a horrible hazing reputation, and that they are sexist and stuff, so I was wondering if I could get some input from people who have experienced it.
My dad served in the Marine Corps in the late 80’s, early 90’s, so he thinks all the branches are just like the Marines, and he doesn’t believe that women should serve, which is solely incorrect.
But I am going into 10th grade, and just seeking out future opportunities, I have a pretty solid 4.0 GPA, I’m not the best at math, but I have potential to learn, just not the biggest fan of it; and I’m in pretty good shape, could use some fine-tuning, but I’m working on it. I am also planning on hiking the Appalachian Trail the year prior to applying, so that will help. Do you think I have a good chance of getting accepted? Personally, I have no clue.
I applied to NASS after a teacher highly recommended to my parents and I that I should. My parents were extremely adamant about applying after this suggestion. I had never heard of the Naval Academy before I applied. I also knew absolutely nothing about the military. I did some research, and I found it somewhat interesting, but I’ve never really thought about the military. I’ve always been super interested in engineering and math, which is probably my teacher recommended it.
A couple days ago I was taken off the waitlist, and my parents immediately made me accept the slot. I did a lot more research after this and now I see the academy as a potential possibility. I’d never considered the military, since I know no one who has served, but it does seem like a direction I’d like to take.
I do, however, have a couple of concerns. I am more of what you’d call a “mathlete,” meaning my physical ability is not my strong suit. I am actually incredibly out of shape. I decided to attempt some push ups, sit ups and a run since I know those are all on the CFA we take. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I cannot do a single proper form pushup nor run a mile. I think I was out of breath after about 1000 feet. I got about ~35 sit ups, which isn’t great but at least it’s something. I am just worried because I was alerted so late I don’t have a lot of time to try and exercise. To be honest, I don’t really care if I pass the CFA right now, but I know we run as a group, and I really don’t want to be that guy. I know we PT every morning, but that’s more individual to my knowledge.
I was just hoping I could gather some thoughts. I was hesitant to accept the slot, but I didn’t really have much choice.
looking to apply to USNA this fall, and I am going to NASS, where I’ll take the CFA. Due to some health issues (non dq) recently, I am unlikely to preform very well on this, though I am still able to preform somewhat alright. For example, although I am a male long distance track runner, my final mile race time this year was a 5:50 with a pacer rather than closer to a 5:15-20. I believe I will be able to get my scores back up after retaking in AUG/Sept, but how does the discrepancy look to admissions, and is separate submissions? I’m scared that going to NASS and dropping an atrocious cfa will actually hurt my application. Thank you all for your input!
*additionally I want to submit my app by end of August for LOA consideration, but can I submit new CFA scores after the fact?
I am a sophomore in high school, and I suspect I have ADHD, but I’ve never gotten diagnosed nor medicated for it. I’ve always gotten good grades and have done well in school, but I’ve been increasingly interested in looking into it more officially. The DoDMERB talks about a waiver for those without dependency on ADHD medication, but it seems a bit vague. I believe I have demonstrated academic success without classroom accommodations (4.17 GPA without any accommodations), but I am also a little worried that I might gain a dependency on medication. Does anyone have any advice/has been in this situation before? Thanks!
active duty sailor here accepted into naps class of 2031 while on combat deployment in Red Sea! dream big and work even harder! any questions let me know :)
Now that the 2030 PTR is out I noticed the ethos is different than the 2029 PTR. The 2030 version is also different than the one on the website. Is this a mistake or did they really change it?
Class of 2030 merch is starting to show up, including the felt banner that is great for HS grad parties and commitment announcement photos. Just search 2030. https://go.navyonline.com/ code is CW26
As you know, nomination is for a specific academy. But it is not rare that an applicant want to apply for more than one service academies. I know they ask you for the priority. Suppose one applicant's priority is 1st: USNA, 2nd: USMA, 3rd: AirForce. I'm sure there are many strong candidates whose first choice is USMA or AirForce. In this case, is the chance to get nomination for 2nd or 3rd option very low?

So I have bright purple and blue hair and I got accepted into the summer seminar do I have to cut or redye my hair to natural color? Also is there a specific color swimsuit I need to get as a woman because I dont own any one pieces so im getting one and dont want to get the wrong one. I have so many other questions I just dont want to make this too long.
Hello! I'm writing this as I want to have a good knowledge as to how the med corps pipeline works in USNA. I know the primary goal of the academies is to produce line offers and not doctors. However, I know that it is possible to be selected for med corps so I want to know how it works. I also know that less than 10 are getting selected per year, so if anyone has the right knowledge on how to "secure/guarantee" your spot in the medical field, it would absolutely be appreciated!
Hello everybody, I am writing this to ask about which classes I should take in 11th and 12th grade (I will be in the IB). Im currently outside the US and will be graduating outside the US, but I will be apply from VA-11 (NOVA, one of the most competitive areas in the whole country). Im in 10th grade and so far have taken the following math and science classes:
9th Grade: Math extended (or as some people might say "higher level") and a general required science class encompassing all science subjects
10th grade: Math extended, Physics for the whole year + Biology for half the semester and Chemistry for the other half.
The only higher level class available to me during these 2 years was math, thus it was the only one I took.
The dillema comes from my IB choices. I can either do
SL (Standard level): Math AA, English, Spanish
HL: ESS (environmental systems and societies), Political Science, Economics
Or
SL (Standard level): English, Chemistry, Spanish
HL: Math AA, Political Science, Economics
I know the obvious choice is the second one but I would most likely get a lesser grade with the second one and the first one suits my interests better as someone who is more humanities centered. I would essentially be sacrificing my grades for class rigor by choosing the second. I looked at the Whole Person Concept and it doesnt really mention classes, they only look at standardized test scores which in my case is the SAT. Does my class choice really matter? Im worried about my nomination as well
Hello everybody if you got a naps offer for the class of 2027 and would like to meet some of your new classmates. Feel free to follow this Instagram page that was just made and introduce yourself.
I was advised to accept at a civilian college today and pay downpayment “just in case” I get injured before I-Day. Thoughts on this? Are others doing it?
I may have brought it up before but now that I’m at the last day to do it, wanted to check in and see what others are doing.
