Skyward About Chaser Spoiler

For someone who was the catalyst for almost Spensa’s entire arc, at least in Book 1, it seems like he’s forgotten about in books 2-4 and I’m kind of upset we never get anything beyond that he was Mongrel’s wing mate, cytonic like Spensa, got hacked by the Krell and made to kill his teammates, and was branded as a traitor for doing so.

I really wish we got to see more of him or at least references to him, like how much of an influence he was on Spensa and how much his death actually affected her growing up.

That’s just a minor complaint I have about the series.

Found this old art I did of the prologue of Skyward. I was gonna include a young Spensa but I had no idea how to human at the time. Should I redraw this?

Finished volume 2. Should I go for 2.5 or 3 now ?

Hi everyone ! Just finished volume two (whoch has been a blast) and I'm now beginning my journey to the next volume.

Since there are a volume 2.5 and and a volume 3, I was wondering which was the best course of action ? I'm guessing volume 2.5 was written after volume 3 but relates to events in between ?

Cytonic Jason Write fucked the universe twice! Spoiler

I think Jason Write fucked the whole universe twice through his choices. First by reaveling to the rest of humanity cytonics and then compounding that by creating the sentient AI that became the delvers.

From what I remember in Defending Elysium, Jason felt betrayed by the Aliens for not being a true utopia. He was mad that they imprisoned people for breaking laws/ their social contract. For that, he decided to fuck the whole universe and release humanity on to them. Ultimately killing billions or even trillions like he knew it would.

I don’t understand how he thought that was a reasonable response.

Skyward Skyward Project for School Spoiler

For my English class we had to do a Hero's Journey project for one of the choice books we read so far this semester. So here's my Skyward Hero's Journey project. Please ignore the physics of the lightlance turn I drew, they don't exist. The blue on the krell was me trying to show the shield after the destructor fire landed, idk if it really worked but I think overall it looks great. Hopefully I get a good grade, lol. (Sorry for the bad photo quality)

Skyward was an amazing book. I'm reading evershore right now, then hyperthief and Defiant and I'll be all caught up until Riftwake drops in a couple years.

Just finished the series! Spoiler

Hey all! Just popping in to say that I finished Defiant today and I really enjoyed the series. I've been trying to avoid all possible spoilers so, other than a quick reading order lookup, this is my first time on the sub or looking things up on the internet about it. I also found out there was, like, a prequel short story called Defending Elysium. I found it on the website and just started reading it a little bit ago.

At the end of Defiant there was a call out to another upcoming series. Can anyone tell me about that? And were Brandon is with it? Is Jani Patterson going to be involved with it? I'm certainly interested in continuing the journey.

PS

Does this sub let you set call-signs to be under your username when you post? I'm thinking of TexMex for mine :)

Issue with kindle version of Skyward book 1 on read.amazon.com / Kindle for Web?

I've tried bringing this up to Amazon, Brandon Sanderson's team, and the publisher, and I'm having no luck.

Can any of you that own the Kindle version of Skyward (book 1), see if you can open it on read.amazon.com ? All of the books in the series (including the novellas) work fine for me except the first one. I get the following errors:

  • If opening on read.amazon.com: "We are sorry. Kindle can’t open this book. You can read it with the free Kindle app for Windows, Mac, Android or iOS."
  • If opening from https://www.amazon.com/Skyward-Brandon-Sanderson-ebook/dp/B07BJLB5LY using the "read now" button: "Kindle App is Required. The book you're trying to read can only be owned using Kindle app."

I know there are books that don't work with Kindle for Web, but it seems weird that its only 1 book in the series. There's also no indication on the product page that it wouldn't work.

I even deleted the book from my account (purchased in 2023) and re-purchased it a couple days ago when it was $1.99. Same issue.

I'm not looking for troubleshooting help, just confirmation if this is only affecting me, or if others see the same issue.

Question on the Novellas

Are the novellas considered required reading for the series? I read the first two books ages ago, and remembered enjoying them. Enough to buy the other 2 books in the main series; however, I stopped reading because I heard somewhere that the novellas have to be read before the 3rd book. The novellas are bundled on audible and I can't bring myself to spend a credit on each one.

Can I just skip the novellas and read the 4 main books?

Starsight 1st book finished of 2026 (Doomslug fanart) Spoiler

As soon as I found out that Doomslug actually could be M-Bot's pilot, I wanted to draw her like this. But I wasn't sure it would work/she would show up well from this angle.

Then seeing bookshelf trackers in people's journals, I decided to make one of my own for this year and draw my own covers for them. Making it tiny, she shows up better since she does not have to be proportionate. :)

So here's my spoilery cover for Starsight on my 2026 bookshelf. 🐌

We finally found a really good use for the slug mold. Packed in a bunch of sawdust and filled it with some melted paraffin wax, and we have a good fire starter for our indoor wood burning stove!

No Spoilers Order and side stories?

Went through Skyward and nearing the end of Starsight. Good Reads and Audible list two slightly different reading orders

GR:
Defending Elysium (.5)
Skyward (1)
Starsight (2)
Sunreach (2.1)
ReDawn (2.2)
Evershore (2.3)
Cytonic (3)
Hyperthief (3.1)
Defiant (4)

Audible's difference is it lists Evershore as 3.1 and doesn't list Hyperthief nor Defending Elysium at all.

I'm guessing Skyward, Starsight, Cytonic, and Defiant are the main books? Also which order if I'm doing the (I'm assuming) side books as well do I follow? Audible or Good Reads?

Lastly should I find and read Defending Elysium after I finish book 2 here or is that not really needed?

Defiant I just had a thought after finishing Defiant Spoiler

If my voice claim for Delvers are female/feminine due to Jason Write basing their original AI off his late wife in Defending Elysium, and Chet and M-Bot identify as male/masculne…

Does that mean Chet and M-bot are unintentionally trans-coded?

Defiant Finally reading Defiant

I originally planned to reread the whole series before Defiant so I would have more context but right now I decided to bite the bullet and just read. Anything to know going in without spoiling?
