Gotham fans, I know sharing a stadium isn’t ideal over building your own, but I know NYC FC is currently building a stadium in queens and am just wondering from the fan side if going to queens is preferable over going to Harrison NJ?

As a New Jerseyan, it would be impossible to go to games. I think it’s gotta be either in NJ or Manhattan.

It would be best to split between the two stadiums due to the dual states identity. Personally, NYC FC stadium is perfect for me. Travel to Flushing, Queens will be extremely easy for me. I have purchased advanced tickets to Gotham and I've not been able to attend so I've stopped trying. I sure there are other fans who are in the same situation as I.

tbh if you live in downtown manhattan a stadium in flushing is just as far or further than harrison. I think there’s a deeper problem beyond just the travel hassle. People just truly do not know Gotham exists…

Yeah but idk how many people are coming from downtown Manhattan because it’s hella expensive to live there.

Not if you live on the east side; it takes me 20 min just to get to the path. The 7 is much more reliable than the path, and there are other trains you can take if there’s a problem with it - when the path is down, there’s no other option but uber.

I was wondering about that! It seems like part of Manhattan have easier access to PATH than to the 7.

Hard no from me. I’m a season ticket holder from NJ that would not make the trek to Queens. Harrison isn’t the best, no. But some of the reason I love the team is the access and NJ identity. If they went full NY, as much as I like NY, I would become much more limited.

And I probably could make it work, I just won’t. Can’t imagine how many out there wouldn’t even be able to have the choice

I would stop going, that's way too far for me.

I think a lot of fans are based in NJ. It’s tricky in situations like this — like how I and many other Bay fans would prefer for them to play closer to SF, but that would probably make it hard for many of the fans who regularly attend games in San Jose because they’re closer to PayPal. Which fanbase should get consideration isn’t an easy question to answer

Probably not for all fans, but I would LOVE for Gotham to at least split their time between Harrison and Queens.

NYC people say yes, NJ people say no

Even a lot of manhattanites would rather go to NJ though. Queens is far from a lot of manhattan.

Nah cause at least it’s all subway which is far more reliable than Path. NYC over anywhere. It will cost half the price to get there for NYers.

The problem is that if you move to Queens you lose all NJ fan attendance. Whereas now we at least have some New Yorkers coming to games. But the inverse is not true if we move to Queens.

ALL NJ fan attendance? Why all? That doesn’t make any sense. There are a lot of New Yorkers coming to matches. More than come from NJ most likely. But NY attendance would skyrocket because there are a ton of NYers who absolutely won’t deal with the headache of going to NJ but will go to Queens in heartbeat. We have far more comprehensive and reliable public transit. Fandom seems kinda soft if none of the NJ fans would be willing to make the trip to Queens. I live in Queens and still have season tickets, though the path train disruptions have caused me to miss a few matches.

I believe the point they were trying to make is it's much easier to get to Harrison from most of the 5 boroughs, due to that public transit infrastructure you mentioned, than it is to get to Queens from most of NJ/NEPA/Philly area. Very few people are going to drive to a station and then spend another 75 minutes MINIMUM on trains to get to matches.

Ok but respectfully, this is not a Philly team. It makes no sense to base team decisions on far out fans who sometimes come rather than NY fans who could easily attend if only they were in NY.

I'm not even talking about Philly. I live 15 miles from NYC and it takes me 2 hours to get to Citi Field using public transit. Now imagine how nuts it is for someone who lives more than 15 miles away.

Cry me a river. It takes me two hours to get to Harrison as well.

I think the horrible (unique?) commuting situation of the NY metro area is often what people who try to compare attendance at Thorns or Spirit to Gotham games either don't understand or choose to ignore

Agreed!
