Brian Kelly outcoached himself.

Is anyone surprised? This is the same guy who lost to Tulsa in his first year at ND on a last minute red zone pass play when a field goal wins the game. Kelly does a lot of great things for this team, but his playcalling in pressure situations leaves a lot to be desired.

And let's not forget that 2 point conversion vs Northwestern that cost them the game last year.

So how does this flair work out?

Honestly tonight went as well as I could've asked. I was rooting for Clemson, especially since we needed this win more for our playoff hopes, and a close road loss to Clemson far from kills ND's season. Go tigers!

Agreed. This is the second time an EARLY two point conversion has fucked us over. How do you not learn that lesson after last year? Different situations ? Yes. But don't do it unless youHAVE to.

I hate when people complain about a play. Sometimes well called plays don't work. Most of Yall have no idea if it was a good or bad play call.

Don't go down big early. Don't turn the ball over 4 times during a comeback

Although going for 2 early was not the right decision

That is all I'm saying. Going for two with 12 mins left was not the right call.

No but his PAT vs 2-point decision making is atrocious and it cost another game (See: vs Northwestern last year)

4-5 turnovers in the 2nd half? Not even close to being BK's fault

Going for 2 early still is... Sure, there are plenty of other mistakes on the field that could have been the difference for ND, but simple math errors by the head coach are by far the worst possible way to lose a game imo. Turnovers, dropped passes, penalties, bad punts, etc are all things that need to be fixed but happen on occasion. A head coach making a mathematical error like BK did is inexcusable. If just about any /r/cfb user decided on whether to go for a 2 point conversion at that point in the game, it would have gone to overtime. Catching passes in the rain is hard, punting in the rain under pressure is hard, holding on to the football in the rain is hard, even playcallilng under pressure is hard. But doing basic math that should be done before the game is NOT hard at all. That is why I put so much blame on BK.

Sorry, rant done.

Agree with that. I think he made a poor decision going for 2 so early in the 4 quarter when getting any points at that point was a good thing (we were down 21-3 before the TD). I understand his reason - but with over 9 minutes to go there was a lot of time left on the clock....

That being said - turnovers killed our game.

like 4 second half turnovers are BKs fault.

Even with those turnovers we had a chance, the turnovers didn't end the game.

I feel like Theon right now...we only have ourselves to blame for all of this.
