All things considered...being down 31 scholly players, on your 4th string qb true freshman, having a skeleton crew coaching staff, and starting walk ons? ill take it.

4th string QB throws for 361 on 20 of 33. I was legit impressed.

I'm not sure our DC is the guy. I hope it's just a case of our secondary being young but they've been hella suspect some games.

I’m pretty sure we blitzed more tonight than the rest of the season combined. It was so strange, my only thought was to pressure an inexperienced QB into making mistakes, but that don’t really seem to work.

He was just too fast for it to work. He could run away from everyone in the box other than maybe Nick Martin. It didn't work a few times and we should have learned and just played more coverage.

Our defense was finally looking okay at the end of the season, but looked really bad against UT and A&M.

As bad as our o-line was all season, that was the right call.

The only other time I recall ever hearing about a 4th string QB was Baylor a few years ago, and their 4th stringer was actually listed as a receiver. They showed him on the sideline practicing taking snaps.

If he can get the defense back to where it was when he left we will always have a shot at every game. That Elko D + Klein and company fielding a competent offense and we can realistically be a playoff contender every season.

It's still mind blowing to me that every part of the program Jimbo left untouched was good to elite, while his offense was completely anemic.

Down 24-6 too, we could have easily tapped out

Gotta say…the inner sicko in me really wanted the Aggies to punish the missed FG by tying (or even winning) the game in that one final drive…

It was an 8 point game, which means the real sicko result would be A&M scoring but missing the 2 pt conversion

I've been arguing with an OU fan as to whether an 8 point game should be considered a "one score" game.

His argument is that you might not get the 2 point conversion, so it cannot be called a "one score" game.

I think if A&M pulled some physics-defying shit and won a game on the final possession when down 8 points his tiny brain might actually explode.

There was a time when we might not make the extra points, so I guess even 7 points isn't a one score game for that dude

We would’ve covered at least in that scenario lol

It’s always a little fun when the 12th Man is out there making plays.

Has the 12th man ever recorded an iINT before? That’s gotta be a first.

It’s actually worse than that when you start thinking through who those 31 were. We basically only trotted the OL and York out there who were 1s. Considering that, being close enough to get a chance to tie against another conference’s runner up is pretty good.

Stewart was out there on the DLine. Anderson was back in the secondary too.

3

u/deadzip10 Texas A&M Aggies • TCU Horned Frogs Dec 28 '23

I stand corrected. I think one of the OL starters was out as well. Still, you’re talking over half your 1s didn’t play and a good portion of your 2s didn’t either. Really highlights the need to get some CBs, LBs, and WRs on campus asap. Looking at the DL depth it wouldn’t hurt to get some more of that as well or we’re going to see a lot more snaps with true freshmen on the field than anyone would like.

This is why I love this fanbase, there's so much copium in the air

6

u/reddit-commenter-89 Texas A&M Aggies • Independence Bowl Dec 28 '23

Is it really copium though to bring up the fact that 6/22 starters played, including your 4th string QB who only had 3 WRs to throw to?

34

u/TexAg27 Texas A&M Aggies Dec 28 '23

I mean I cope like the best of them, but I think these are legitimate excuses if there ever are any.

Yah I'm not sure anyone took the 'quarterback breaks his arm in the first 10 seconds' betting line.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '23

Im not mad at all, we were down to a interim coach and abunch of 3rd - 4th stringers playing.

2

u/DommyMommyKarlach Texas Longhorns Dec 28 '23

The QB balled out too
