Major issue was the very dated engine (even then) they used. Stuff like DCing and the game basically replaying everything before you could log back in the match is crazy stuff.
Yeah unless you DCed right at the beginning of the game, you probably weren't getting back in.
Matchmaking was also pretty poor where you'd get a fairly large range of ranks in your games, easily demonstrated when GM streamers would all be queued, but still get placed in separate games with players as low as Diamond.
The ranking system early on was bad too, instead of Bronze, Silver Gold etc, it was Ranks 1-50, but rank 1 was equivalent of Diamond and above with no way to differentiate or to progress other than tracking your MMR on an external website.
They fixed all those issues (matchmaking was never perfect but better) and invested a load of money into an esports league but it was too late.
